Billions of batteries that are discarded each year contain toxic metals such as cadmium, mercury, lead along together with other hazardous materials like lithium, posing a significant environmental hazard if not disposed of properly.
That's why Ford manufacturers and dealers are committed to reducing the environmental impact of batteries. This includes initiatives such as organising collection systems.
Currently, approximately 90% of lead-acid batteries are recycled, primarily for remanufacturing or reprocessing. The UK market has its own collection system in place to minimise environmental impact.
For high-voltage (HV) lithium-ion batteries, our primary objective is to collect them for remanufacturing and repurposing. Where this isn't feasible, we strive to recycle them, supporting a circular economy.
How to dispose of batteries?
Every high-voltage (HV) lithium-ion battery from Ford electric vehicles must be registered at www.fordbatterycollection.com. This website is for Ford dealers, vehicle dismantlers, and other authorised parties to register batteries from Ford vehicles for disposal. Upon registration, a collection ticket will be issued automatically, and we will arrange for collection. In accordance with the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, we accept and dispose of these batteries free of charge.

Make sure that you dispose of old batteries in an environmentally friendly way. Seek advise from your local authority about recycling old batteries.

Additional Information for Automotive Treatment facilities (ATF)
More information regarding dismantling of the battery from a vehicle is available free of charge via International Dismantling Information System (IDIS). Please refer to https://www.idis2.com
Battery producers also support collection systems, allowing customers to return portable automotive batteries (and accumulators) to designated collection points. These batteries can be dropped off free of charge at these take-back points. For more information, please contact CarTakeBack, our official UK dismantling partner.
For HV lithium-ion battery collection, please contact the CRC at 020 3564 4444 or elveu@ford.com.
