Our commitment to accessibility
Here at Ford, we understand the importance of delivering a website that’s accessible to everyone.
Our goal is to ensure people have the freedom to explore, learn and interact with our site without encountering unnecessary barriers. This is informed by our Road to Better policies for people, with a commitment to building a more sustainable, inclusive and equitable transportation future.
This is why we’ve carried out a number of accessibility evaluations on the site, in accordance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Our ongoing development and content creation is guided by best-practice accessibility guidelines such as WCAG and ISO 30071-1.
Examples of accessibility features that we have been implementing on our site:
- Responsive design across key tools for seamless use on mobile, tablet and desktop.
- Robust keyboard navigation throughout our global menu, complete with visible focus outlines to assist users moving through the site without a mouse.
- Clear typography and contrast ratios across different zoom levels and reflow scenarios.
- Semantic markup of header, navigation and main content areas to enhance capability with screen readers.
Our ongoing process
We view accessibility as an ongoing journey. We have made considerable progress throughout our e-commerce experience, and we’re excited to build on that momentum across the broader site. Our goal is to deliver a seamless and consistent experience for every visitor on every page by:
- Continuously refining keyboard navigation for a smooth, consistent experience for both sighted users and those with vision difficulties.
- Evaluating overlays and popups to ensure that they are intuitive, clearly understood and easy to interact with on various assistive technologies.
- Improving screen reader support so that content in multiple languages is pronounced correctly and naturally.
- Updating tab controls and carousels to make navigation easier and more user-friendly.
We remain dedicated to continuing prioritising accessibility a natural part of how we design and build our digital experience.
Adapting your experience of our site to your needs
While this site has been created to be usable ‘as is’, many people are likely to get the most accessible experience by customising their computer to suit their individual needs, for example, to have this webpage spoken to them, to change its colour scheme, or increase the size of the text.
If that sounds like it would be useful to you, we recommend you visit: “WAI’s Better Web Browsing: Tips for Customising your Computer” to read or watch videos of how these customisations (achieved by using accessibility features already on your computer, smartphone or tablet, or through installing assistive technologies) might suit you.
