FORD MUSTANG FEATURES

ENGINES & TRANSMISSIONS

The Mustang is about more than performance. From improvements under the bonnet to enhancements to its aerodynamics, the Mustang is built to deliver an exhilarating drive whenever you get behind the wheel – whether that’s for a Sunday spin or a serious track session. But while the drive is the most important thing, it isn’t the only thing. Both the GT and Mach 1 come with an array of technologies to keep you informed, connected and entertained. A high-performance braking system, ergonomic design and premium materials ensure you enjoy its performance in comfort and safety.

All-New Ford Mustang Mach 1 engine

ONE MUSTANG. TWO POWERFUL ENGINES

We’ve added dual fuel injection technology, that combines high-pressure direct fuel injection with low pressure port fuel injection, to the renowned Mustang GT 5.0-litre V8 engine. As a result, it produces an impressive 450PS with 533 Nm of torque. The specially modified and calibrated Mach 1 5.0-litre V8 produces 460PS (with 529 Nm of torque) taking things up a notch. Performance enhancements allow for increased power output, taking you to 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds and to a top speed of 166 mph.

A SMOOTH AND RESPONSIVE 6-SPEED MANUAL

Both the GT and Mach 1 are available with a 6-speed manual transmission. A short first gear ratio delivers excellent acceleration from a standstill, while an overdrive 6th gear ratio reduces engine rpm at higher speeds to help improve fuel economy. With smooth and precise gearshift, a short-throw between gears, positive shift stops, these transmissions are designed for performance driving. In the Mach 1, this has been specially enhanced to include automatic rev matching, for even smoother gear changes, making it even more tuned for performance on the track.

A SOPHISTICATED 10-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Choose an advanced new 10-speed automatic transmission, for exceptional acceleration and outstanding fuel efficiency. The different Mustang drive modes change the electronic control system that optimises performance. With real-time adaptive shift-scheduling, the transmission can adapt to changing conditions and select the right gear in any situation: from motorway to track. This has been upgraded in the Mach 1 for optimum torque capability and calibrated for even sportier gear shifts. With steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifters, you’re always in command of Mustang’s impressive power.

TRACK-READY PERFORMANCE

RECOGNISABLE ROAR

The Mach 1 Mustang has unique active exhaust tuning to match its character, giving it a deep, throaty rumble. The 4.5-inch quad exhaust tips are perforated to enhance the quality. With both the Mach 1 and the GT models, you can control the sound your Mustang makes, using the Active Valve Exhaust. Select Quiet, Normal, Sport or Race Track. You can even set Quiet mode on a timer.

SERIOUS STOPPING POWER

A high performance car like the Mustang needs a high performance, ultra-reliable braking system. So both the GT and Mach 1 are equipped with high spec, 6-piston Brembo™ front calipers that bite down on 15” vented rotors.

NEW ADVANCED COOLING SYSTEM

The Mach 1 is equipped with a sophisticated new cooling system. It includes two side heat exchangers – one engine oil cooler and one transmission oil cooler, which increases cooling capacity by 75%. There’s also a rear axle cooler heat exchanger and pump, as well as brake cooling ducts. All of which add up to enhanced endurance.

GAUGE YOUR PERFORMANCE

Track Apps measures multiple performance metrics and displays them in the instrument cluster, helping you get the most from your Ford Mustang. Using Track Apps, you can view an acceleration timer, brake performance, lap times and more. All this information helps you to maximise Mustang’s capabilities, and your enjoyment, whenever you’re on track.

AERODYNAMIC STYLING

With its sleek, low-slung silhouette, the Mustang GT is every inch a performance car. But in the Mach 1, even this design has been improved for the track, with extensive aerodynamic enhancements. These include a front splitter, a new extended belly pan, and a rear diffuser, which all work in tandem to deliver significantly more downforce. A new front grille and overall front airflow improvements deliver improved cooling for optimal track performance, as well as an aggressive, commanding presence on the road. At the same time, the car’s iconic shark-nose front design harks back to its illustrious heritage.

RESPONSIVE STEERING, UNRIVALLED AGILITY

Both Mustang models have electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), which automatically adjusts to your speed and the driving conditions. EPAS has been specially recalibrated for the Mach 1, as has the automatically self-adjusting MagneRide™ suspension system, to bring sharper steering responsiveness and ride quality. While the upgraded, precision-tuned chassis, combined with stiffer sway bars and front suspension, delivers optimal handling and stability.

MAKE EVERY DRIVE MEMORABLE

INTRODUCING MAGNERIDE™ DAMPING SYSTEM

This advanced new suspension system delivers both driving confidence and exceptional comfort. The system continually monitors road conditions and driver intention, checking and adjusting the dampers up to one thousand times per second. Selecting different Drive Modes automatically adjusts the system’s calibration for exceptional stability, ride comfort and control in all conditions.

SELECTABLE DRIVE MODES

With the flick of a switch you can change and optimise Mustang’s performance settings from Normal to Sport+, Track and Snow/Wet. Depending on which Mode you select, you can change steering effort, throttle response, gearshift control (automatic only) and Electronic Stability Control settings to suit the conditions and your own personal driving preferences. With MyMode you can then save your preferred settings, including the intensity of the car’s Active Valve Exhaust. And for a truly exhilarating experience on a track, a new Drag Strip mode maximises acceleration from a standing start.

POWER-ASSISTED STEERING THAT RESPONDS TO EVERY SITUATION

Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) automatically adjusts to your speed and the conditions. At low speeds, the system makes wheel turns feel lighter and easier, improving manoeuvrability. At high speeds, when you need greater control, it firms up the steering. Now with drift control, EPAS also takes into account crosswinds and other driving conditions, while active nibble control reduces any unwanted vibration in the steering wheel.

EXTRA CONTROL DURING HILL STARTS

Hill Start Assist temporarily stops you rolling backwards or forwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2-3 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces.

CRUISE CONTROL THAT CAN ADAPT AUTOMATICALLY

With Adaptive Cruise Control technology, you choose the speed you want to drive at and the system will maintain it. If the built-in RADAR sensor and the camera detect detects a vehicle ahead, it will slow your vehicle to maintain a pre-set distance. Once the road in front is clear, the system will accelerate to your chosen speed.

AN ADVANCED SYSTEM TO HELP YOU STAY IN YOUR LANE

A Lane Keeping System uses a forward-looking camera to detect if you’re unintentionally drifting out of lane. Lane Keeping Alert then warns you by vibrating the steering wheel and displaying a visual warning. If you're slow to react or don’t respond, Lane Keeping Aid can provide steering torque assistance to help guide you back into the right lane. The technology is designed for multi-lane roads (like motorways), so will automatically deactivate at speeds below 43mph, or can be turned off manually.

EASIER REVERSING

Bollards, bicycles, low walls… The rear-view camera shows whatever’s behind you on a screen built into the 8” SYNC 3 screen. As well as revealing objects you might miss, the system displays virtual lines to help you park into the smallest of spaces. The camera activates automatically when you select reverse gear.

LED HEADLIGHTS AND DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS

Mustang now comes with all-LED tri-bar headlamps to deliver a precise and intensely bright light pattern. A useful night-driving aid, auto high beam also temporarily dips your headlights when it detects oncoming traffic or a vehicle ahead, stopping you dazzling other drivers. It then automatically reverts back to high beam, giving you maximum visibility. In addition, daytime running lights not only look stunning, they’re designed to help increase your visibility.

MORE THAN PERFORMANCE

A SYSTEM THAT CAN HELP PROTECT PEDESTRIANS

Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection uses radar and camera technology to scan the road ahead. If a collision risk with a vehicle or pedestrian is detected, it’ll then provide you with a warning. If you don’t respond in time, the system can automatically apply up to full braking force to help reduce the severity of, or even eliminate, some frontal collisions.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is designed to give you greater control of your vehicle. Sensors constantly monitor the speed of each individual wheel, as well as the vehicle’s direction and steering angle. ESC precisely balances braking power between each individual wheel and can also reduce power from the engine. This helps counter understeer and oversteer, making your vehicle more stable and easier for you to control. ESC and Traction Control can also reduce the risk of wheelspin in wet or icy conditions.

AN EARLY WARNING IF A TYRE IS GOING FLAT

If the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System detects any of your tyres starting to lose pressure during your journey, the System warns you by lighting up an icon on the instrument panel.

QUICKER, SHORTER EMERGENCY STOPS

When it senses an emergency stopping situation, Electronic Stability Control pre-charges the braking system, closing any air gap between brake pads and discs. Known as Electronic Brake Prefill, this technology helps reduce the car’s braking distance.

FORD SYNC EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE

An important part of Ford SYNC is Emergency Assistance. In the event of an accident, where the airbag is deployed or the fuel-pump deactivated, the technology can use a Bluetooth-paired and connected mobile phone to help you make a direct call to the Emergency Services. You can choose to stop the call, or talk to those services if you need to. Crucially, the system can supply vital information, such as your GPS coordinates, even if you are unable to. For more minor incidents such as tyre damage, FordPass app lets you call Roadside Assistance with just a few taps, and track when help will arrive on a real-time map.

The technology is designed to give you peace of mind if you lend your vehicle to a friend or family member, because you can programme the restrictions you want to set for that key. You can keep the unrestricted ‘admin’ key yourself and even have more than one of both if you want.

EXTRA SECURITY FOR AN EXTRA-SPECIAL CAR

A sophisticated Thatcham Category 1 active anti-theft system is designed to help protect your Mustang, warning you if anyone tries to break into your car. It also prevents unwanted towing. By arming the system in different ways, you can choose to monitor the doors, bonnet and boot. FordPass can also deliver heightened security, with Alarm Trigger Notification alerts sent through the app if your car’s alarm is activated, and the new SecuriAlert which alerts you via a notification if it detects any unauthorised access attempts – even if they don’t trigger the alarm.
