Driving Experience

For a mid-size van, you’ll find the Transit Custom remarkably agile. It also comes with many clever features that make driving even easier.

Mechanical Limited-Slip Differential

Transit Custom Trail is built to help you tackle challenging terrain with ease. Available on vehicles with a manual transmission, the mechanical Limited-Slip Differential reduces unwanted wheel spin, especially on loose or uneven surfaces, by directing power to the wheel with the most tractionTooltip. This helps to keep you moving forwards and improves the van's stability when you need it most.

Adapt to the conditions

Selectable Drive Modes allows you to tailor your Transit’s performance by choosing from five available drive modes: Normal, Slippery, Mud/Rut, Tow, and for maximum efficiency, EcoMode. The system adjusts various settings to optimise performance for the conditions. These include throttle response and steering feel, as well as gear-change behaviour on vehicles with automatic transmission.

Helping to keep you inside the speed limit

The Transit Custom now comes with Intelligent Speed Assist, designed to enhance your speed control, enabling you to concentrate on the road. First, the Traffic Sign Recognition camera automatically detects the current speed limit (when activated), then the system adjusts your maximum speed setting to that limitTooltip.

Cruise control that can adapt automatically

With Adaptive Cruise Control technology, you choose the speed you want to drive at and the system will maintain it. If the built-in RADAR sensor detects a vehicle ahead, it will slow your vehicle to maintain a pre-set distance. Once the road in front is clear, the system will accelerate to your chosen speed. Forward Alert is a technology that comes as part of Adaptive Cruise Control and is designed to warn you if you accidentally get too close to the vehicle in front.

Let Transit do the parking

Parking your van in a busy street or a tight space can be tricky. But Active Park Assist makes it easier than you’d ever believe possible. Once activated, the system can identify a suitable perpendicular or parallel space, and then steer you in. All you need to do is brake or accelerate as directed. The technology can even steer you out of a parking space when you want to get back on the road. ‘Available at extra cost’.

New Ford Transit Custom with Blind Spot Information System

Technology that sees what you can’t

The Blind Spot Information System uses RADAR sensors to see vehicles that may be hidden in your blind spot. They’re situated on either side of your Transit Custom and alert you with an orange light, clearly displayed in the side door mirror.

Spots the vehicles you might miss

Cross Traffic Alert is part of the Blind Spot Information System. When you’re reversing out of a space and have limited visibility of the traffic situation, Cross Traffic Alert can detect oncoming vehicles and sound a warning. The technology illuminates a light in the wing mirror too (left or right depending on the direction of oncoming traffic), as well as displaying a warning on the multi-functional display.

Sees the road signs you might miss

Whether the signs are at the side of the road or above it, permanent or temporary, Traffic Sign Recognition can identify them. An icon of that speed or a no-overtaking sign appears on the instrument cluster and changes every time you enter a limit.

LED daytime running lights for style and visibility

Highly energy efficient, these advanced daytime running lights provide a signature look that really sets Transit Custom apart: they’ll help get you noticed during the day and seen clearly at night.

Headlights that react automatically

Automatic headlights use a sensor that detects failing light at dusk, or when there’s a sudden change in light conditions. This triggers the automatic headlights to turn themselves on, aiding the driver in darker conditions.

In addition, Auto High Beam temporarily dips your headlights when it detects oncoming traffic or a vehicle ahead, stopping you dazzling other drivers. It then automatically reverts back to high beam, giving you maximum visibility.

An advanced system to help you stay in lane

If it detects that you’re accidentally drifting out of lane, Lane-Keeping Alert can alert you by vibrating the steering wheel and displaying a visual warning.

Extra control during hill starts

Hill Start Assist temporarily stops you rolling backwards or forwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2-3 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces..

Monitors your direction

Working in conjunction with Traffic Sign Recognition, Wrong Way Alert is designed to provide visual and audible warnings if you pass a no-entry sign, and to alert you if you travel the wrong way down a road. (Not available in all markets)

Driver Alert System tells you when you’re getting tired

Driver Alert System constantly monitors your driving behaviour and is designed to detect any changes that could be caused by fatigue. If the system identifies you’re becoming less vigilant, a warning icon appears in the display, suggesting you take a break. If your driving alertness further declines, the message is repeated and combined with a chime.

Easier reversing

Bollards, bicycles, low walls… The rear-view camera shows whatever’s behind you on a screen built into the centre console. As well as revealing objects you might miss, the system displays virtual lines to help you park into the smallest of spaces. The camera activates automatically when you select reverse gear.

Sensors that take the stress out of parking

Front and rear parking distance sensors help you judge the distance between your vehicle and obstacles in front or behind you. When the sensors detect an object, they activate a visual and audible warning that intensifies the closer you get to it.

Ford SYNC Emergency Assistance

An important part of Ford SYNC is Emergency AssistanceFord Emergency Assistance. In the event of an accident, where the airbag is deployed or the fuel-pump deactivated, the technology can use a Bluetooth®-paired and connected mobile phone to help you make a direct call to the Emergency Services. You can choose to stop the call, or talk to those services if you need to. Crucially, the system can supply vital information, such as your GPS coordinates, even if you are unable to.
