Ford SYNC keeps you connected and entertained
Stay in touch every second you’re driving, with state-of-the-art Ford SYNC voice activated control and connectivity technology. It lets you make and take mobile phone calls, hands-free, using the simplest voice commands. It can even read out text messages you’ve been sent.

Likewise, you can control your music on your iPod or MP3 Player, just by using your voice. So, while Ford SYNC keeps you connected and entertained, you can keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Emergency Assistance. Added Peace of Mind

An important and potentially life-saving part of Ford SYNC® is Emergency Assistance.

In the unlikely event of an accident, where the airbag is deployed or the fuel-pump is deactivated, the technology can help you make a direct call to the Emergency Services. Crucially, the system is designed to supply vital information, such as your GPS coordinates, in the event you do not know your location or you are not able to provide it yourself.*

Emergency Assistance has been recognised by Europe's leading independent vehicle safety organisation, Euro NCAP, who awarded the technology their highly rated Advanced reward.

To see which SYNC features you can look forward to using with your particular mobile device, search using our Ford SYNC mobile phone compatibility portal.

Ford SYNC is currently available on the Focus, C-MAX, new Ford B-MAX, new Focus ST, new Fiesta, all-new Kuga and the all-new Transit Custom. This technology will also soon be available on the new Fiesta ST.

*Ford Emergency Assistance operates in over 30 European countries. This feature works when paired with a compatible connected mobile phone that is with you when an airbag is deployed (excludes knee airbags) or a sensor that registers a crash deactivates the fuel pump. Text function and Emergency Assistance not supported by all European languages.
Ford SYNC Voice Activated Control
Simple voice control
Ford SYNC is so intuitive, it can operate with simple voice activated commands. For example, if you want to call home, you just say “Phone… Call home”. Ford SYNC then connects you. It’s that easy. The commands you use to control your music via your iPod or MP3 player are equally simple, too.

If ever SYNC is unsure of one of your spoken commands, it suggests alternatives, both by saying them out loud and showing them on your display screen.

To find out more, view our Ford SYNC Voice Activated Control Video.
Hands-free mobile
It’s easy to stay in contact when you’re on the road. Just pair your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone with Ford SYNC and you can chat, hands-free.

Voice commands as simple as “Phone… Call Jack mobile” are all you need to use to make a call (Ford SYNC uses the contact list on your mobile phone).
Ford SYNC automatic continuation
Continue your call in and out of the car
If you’re on a hands-free call when you’re getting out of the car, Ford SYNC automatically switches it to your mobile phone. And if you’re talking on your mobile as you’re getting into the car, SYNC switches the call to hands-free mode. Either way, you can carry on your conversation, uninterrupted.

Have your texts read to you
Ford SYNC can even read aloud text messages sent to your mobile, while you’re driving. You can then call the sender back immediately, using simple voice commands.

View our video demonstrating how Ford SYNC reads aloud text messages.
Hands-free music
With Ford SYNC, you use simple voice activated commands to play tracks from your iPod, MP3 player or USB stick, or stream music from a compatible mobile phone.

Select a track quickly and easily
You can select and play music by artist, song title or album title. For example, you simply say, “USB… Play artist, Lady Gaga”. You can also select a particular type of music, as Ford SYNC automatically sorts your track listing by genre and into your Playlists.

The Ford SYNC technology can even tell you the name of the track or artist playing at any given time. You just ask, “USB… What’s playing?”
Ford SYNC Compatiable with a large range of media players
Compatible with lots of media players
Ford SYNC supports a range of media players including Apple, Arcos, Creative Labs, iRiver, Phillips, SanDisk, Toshiba, Samsung and Sony. And all the time yours is plugged into the USB port, SYNC charges it.

Ford SYNC Emergency Assistance
In the unlikely event of an accident, Ford SYNC’s award-winning Emergency Assistance feature can provide vital help.

To find out more, view the Ford SYNC Emergency Assistance Video.
A direct call to the Emergency Services
Triggered by an airbag activating or the fuel pump being cut off, Ford SYNC Emergency Assistance uses your mobile phone to contact the Emergency Services directly. (There’s no third party call centre to slow things down.) It gives them crucial information, such as your GPS coordinates, and then enables you to talk to them yourself.

Help at home and abroad
If you have an accident abroad, Emergency Assistance is particularly clever. Thanks to its unique linguistic capabilities, it can talk to you in your chosen language, but speak to the Emergency Services in their local language. This extra peace of mind is free for the lifetime of your vehicle.

The Emergency Assistance feature will not place an Emergency Call in the following markets:

ALBANIA, BELARUS, BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA, FORMER REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MOLDOVA, NETHERLANDS, RUSSIA, UKRAINE

Note: The Emergency Assistance feature is available in the following European markets:

Ford SYNC technology is constantly evolving – for example, its language capabilities are becoming more sophisticated all the time. And you’ll be able to integrate the improvements and new services into your SYNC version, as they’re released.

Currently, you can have the updates downloaded directly, by taking your car to your local Ford dealer.

And soon you’ll be able to simply download them from our website onto a USB stick. You can then slot this into the USB port in your car and transfer the new services and updates yourself.
What is Ford SYNC?
Ford SYNC is an award-winning communications and entertainment system that keeps you connected while you're on the road. With SYNC you can make phone calls and play music, hands-free.
How does SYNC work?
Ford SYNC uses Bluetooth® wireless technology to pass information between your vehicle and your mobile phone. You can use voice commands and other simple controls—such as steering wheel buttons—to make and receive calls or listen to music. Like a universal remote control, SYNC controls your phone handset and your music, stored on your iPod, MP3 Player, USB or Bluetooth Audio devices. SYNC is customised in each vehicle, so the design can vary from model to model, but the basics are the same.
How do I find out if my mobile phone is compatible with Ford SYNC?
To get the most out of SYNC, you’ll need a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone. Check our list of compatible phones via the Ford SYNC Mobile Device Compatibility panel.
What is pairing and how do I pair my mobile phone?
To use any of the mobile phone features for SYNC® — such as making a call or receiving a text message — you must first connect, or "pair" your Bluetooth®-enabled phone. Pairing is what allows Bluetooth devices to communicate securely with each other.

Please note that SYNC can make and receive calls using only one paired phone at a time.
Which voice commands can I use?
Ford SYNC is easy to operate using simple voice commands. For more information on voice control make sure to check the SYNC mobile compatibility portal to confirm which services you can use with your mobile device.
What happens if SYNC does not recognise a Voice Command?
Ford SYNC suggests alternatives, both by saying them out loud and by displaying them on the display screen. You can use the buttons around the display screen to select a service manually if you prefer.
What will happen if I make a change a contact on my phone?
When you transfer your phonebook to SYNC®, say the person's name and SYNC will call for you. You can also say a person at a location, such as "Call Mom at home." Turn on the Automatic Phonebook Download feature, and every time you connect your Bluetooth®-enabled phone handset, it will update any additions or changes you've made to your contacts.
Why does SYNC display an empty phonebook when my phone is connected?
First check that the phonebook download is allowed on your phone by checking our compatibility page - the link for this is below.

Next check the phonebook download settings in SYNC. Enter the PHONE -> page down -> Phonebook preferences menu. Make sure that the Download phonebook option is checked.

After this step, trigger a manual download of the phonebook by selecting the menu entry Download now.

Each phone is different and we recommend you refer to the paired phone's User Guide.
Why does the Read Text Message function not work on my phone?
This is a phone-dependent feature. Your phone must support downloading text messages via Bluetooth to receive incoming text messages.

Access the Text Messaging menu of SYNC to see if the feature is supported by your phone (PHONE > page down > Text messaging).

Because each phone is a little different, always refer to the user’s guide for the specific mobile phone being paired. In fact, there can be differences between phones due to brand, model, service provider and software version.
What happens if I am on a call and enter my vehicle?
Your telephone call will automatically transfer from your handset to SYNC. (use of in-vehicle microphone and speakers). No user interaction is required.
What happens if during a call I switch the engine off?
When you switch the engine off everything will remain as is (use of in-vehicle microphone and speakers). As soon as you open the door when the engine has been turned off, the call will automatically transfer to your phone and you can continue on your mobile handset. No user interaction is required.
How does the hands-free music feature work?
With simple voice commands SYNC will play tracks from your iPod, MP3 Player, or USB Stick, or stream music from a compatible mobile phone.
Will my media player be compatible?
SYNC is compatible with many media players, and if plugged in to the USB port, SYNC will keep your media player charged.
How do I play my favourite songs?
With simple voice commands SYNC will play music by genre, artist, song title or album title.
How does Emergency Assistance work?
When the feature is ON, Emergency Assistance uses your paired and connected Bluetooth-enabled phone to dial 112 if your airbag deploys and, on certain vehicles, if the emergency fuel pump shut-off is activated. Emergency Assist gives occupants the option to cancel the call before dialling.
Will Emergency Assist work if I take my vehicle abroad?
Emergency Assistance works at home and abroad. SYNC can talk to you in your chosen language and will speak to Emergency Services in their local language.
How do I upgrade SYNC?
For now you can have SYNC updates downloaded by visiting your nearest dealer. In the near future you will simply download updates from this website on to a USB stick, then plug it in to the USB port in your car and transfer the new information.
