What is the Ford Vehicle Usage Study?

The information below explains the purpose of a vehicle usage study currently being conducted on Kuga PHEV, Mustang Mach-E and Ranger customer vehicles in the UK.

Purpose of the Study

Ford is performing this study concerning general product development (GPD).

In the context of GPD, the following purposes are pursued:

  • First-time collection of customer usage data on Kuga PHEV, Mustang Mach-E and Ranger
  • Development of design targets, test procedures, CAE models and calibration strategies for various attributes and functions
  • Optimise feature selection and product offering
  • Learn how customers are operating electrified vehicles (e.g. battery charging, trip mileages & speeds)

Study Procedure

For the performance of the study a compact data logger will be installed by a Ford employee in the vehicle of each participating customer. Installation can be at the customer’s home address, at a dealership or another address agreed between the customer and the Ford employee. The data logger enables the collection and storage of data of the vehicle’s controller area network (CAN) bus. During the study period customers will be able to continue using the vehicle in their daily routine, without any special requests or directions from Ford, and will not notice any difference when driving.

This study has no effect on the insurance of the customer’s vehicle.

Usage of Customer’s Personal Data

Any personal data collected in the study will be used for technical support and for product/services research, development, and improvement purposes as laid out in the section “purpose of this study” and will only be available to individuals with a legitimate business need to know.

Compensation for the Participation in the Study

For the participation in this study the customer will receive a monetary compensation of GBP 250 after installation of the hardware. If the customer terminates the participation in the study within 2 weeks after signing the contract, Ford is entitled to request the initially paid monetary compensation to be returned by the customer. The remaining amount of GBP 300 will be paid after completion of the study and removal of the hardware, unless the customer terminates the participation before the completion of the study. In this case, the customer is not entitled to the remaining compensation.

Thank you for your supporting this study and allowing Ford to improve its products.
