HOW-TO VIDEOS

How to adjust the speed of your windscreen wipers

From a sudden splash to a continuous soaking, water on your windscreen can really affect your visibility and, therefore, your safety. That’s why it’s important to know how to adjust the speed of your wipers (and rain sensing wipers) so you can clear your windscreen quickly and efficiently.

  •  The wiper controls are on a stalk, next to your steering wheel.
  • You can operate the controls with your finger. So you don’t have to take your hand off the wheel.
  • Move the stalk up and down. You’ll feel it click into three different positions.
  • TOP TIP: Don’t test the wipers on a dry windscreen: it can damage the blades and scratch the glass.
  • Position 1: In this neutral position, the wipers are ‘off’.
  • Position 2: ‘Bounce’ the stalk down once and the wipers will make a single swipe. This is useful if you get a sudden splash of water on the screen.
  • Position 3: From the ‘off’ position, push the stalk up one notch. It will click and stay in place.
  • The wipers will wipe intermittently to a set timing.
  • Position 4: Push the stalk up to the next notch.
  • The wipers will now swipe continuously.
  • Position 5: Push the stalk up as far as it will go.
  • The wipers will work at high speed.
  • If you set the wipers to work intermittently, you can change their tempo.
  • On the wiper stalk, you’ll find a dial.
  • Turn it up to set a shorter interval between each wipe.
  • Turn it down to set a longer interval between each wipe.
  • Now for your rear wiper.
  • Pull the stalk towards you. The washer and wiper will work together.

After one wash and wipe, the wiper will pause. It will then wipe one more time to clear the window. That’s how easy it is to adjust the speed of your windscreen wipers. But if there’s anything you’re not sure about, you can always refer to your Owner’s Manual, or simply contact your Ford Dealer.

How to open & close your bonnet correctly

There’s an art to opening and closing a bonnet the right way. And by the end of this short video, you’ll have learnt it.

You’ll need to open your bonnet to check things like washer fluid and oil. Here’s how to do it properly:

  • First, make sure your handbrake’s on and the ignition’s turned off.
  • Let your engine cool for about 10 minutes.
  • Reach under the dash and pull the lever.
  • The bonnet will pop open.
  • Lift the bonnet slightly and feel the release catch, then slide it to the left.
  • Lift the bonnet fully, then prop it up safely.
  • TOP TIP: Don’t open your bonnet in a high wind.
  • Time to put the bonnet down?
  • Hold it up with one hand, release the strut with the other.
  • Let the bonnet down, then about 30 cm from the body, drop it to lock it.
  • TOP TIP: Don’t push the bonnet down to lock it: you might dent your lovely car.

That’s how easy it is to open and close your bonnet.

But if there’s anything you’re not sure about, just ask your Ford Dealer.

How to add a VIN in your FordPass app

With the FordPass smartphone app, you can access powerful new SYNC 3 features. For example, ‘Destinations,’ which enables you to program your navigation system from the comfort of your home. The app will update your navigation with the latest traffic information, too. Plus, you can search for available parking spaces, check their costs, opening hours and ratings, and even search for refuelling points and compare pricing.

By adding your VIN, you can also check warranty information, book a service and access any potential Vehicle Health Alerts

  • When you first open the FordPass app you'll be prompted to enter your vehicle’s unique 17-digit VIN: the number instantly identifies your vehicle. You can see how to add your VIN in this video.
  • Finding the VIN is easy. Just check the driver side doorframe, or the where the dashboard meets the windscreen on the driver’s side.
  • TOP TIP: You'll find the VIN in your vehicle handover documents, too.
  • When you enter your VIN, make sure you don't put a letter 'O' in place of a zero. And check you've typed in all 17 digits.
  • Now tap 'Next'.
  • You can give your car a name, you can see its picture, and view 'Vehicle Details'.

That's how easy it is to enter a VIN in your FordPass app.
