Confidence in changeable conditions

An Intelligent AWD system can determine how much grip, cornering balance and responsiveness is required in wet, dry or icy conditions and on varying terrain. The technology is able to send drive to the front or rear axle depending on requirements. And this ‘torque on demand’ system delivers exceptional handling and improved efficiency.

Power-assisted steering that responds to every situation

Electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) automatically adjusts to your speed and the conditions. At low speeds, the system makes wheel turns feel lighter and easier, improving manoeuvrability. At high speeds, when you need greater control, it firms up the steering. Now with drift control, EPAS also takes into account crosswinds and other driving conditions, while active nibble control reduces any unwanted vibration in the steering wheel.

Sees what’s coming, from either side

A tiny panoramic camera, on the front of the S-MAX, relays a split-screen image to your car’s multi-function display so you can see vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians coming from either side. This Front Wide-View Camera is invaluable if you’re edging out of a narrow parking space, or on to a busy road where your view is obstructed.

Stress-free parking and pulling out

Works like Active Park Assist in reverse, helping you manoeuvre out of a parallel space. The system steers while you operate the accelerator, brake and gears. When the vehicle has cleared the space, it informs you to 'Take control of steering' as a message through the cluster.

Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance

An important and potentially life-saving part of Ford SYNC is Emergency AssistanceFord Emergency Assistance - updated. In the unlikely event of an accident, where the airbag is deployed or the fuel-pump deactivated, the technology can use a Bluetooth®-paired and connected mobile phone to automatically make a direct call to the Emergency Services for you. You can choose to stop the call, or talk to those services if you need to. Crucially, the system will supply vital information, such as your GPS coordinates, even if you are unconscious.
