As you may have heard over recent weeks the law on using child restraints in cars and light vehicles has now changed, ensuring greater protection for your children.
Information about the law change
The new law
From Spring 2006, the proposed law requires that all children have to use a restraint appropriate for their size and will no longer be able to use an adult seat belt alone in the front or rear seats, if under a certain height.
The new legislation proposes the following key changes, enforced from 18th September 2006.
All children under three years old must use an appropriate child restraint when travelling in a car or goods vehicle (except in a taxi if a child seat is not available)
Children between three years and up to 12 years (or up to 135 cms, approximately 4'5" in height), must use a child restraint appropriate for their size when travelling in a car or goods vehicle fitted with seat belts (few exceptions are permitted)
Rear-facing baby seats must not be used in seats with an active front air-bag
All child restraints must conform to modern safety standards, meaning UN-ECE Regulation 44.04 from May 2008
