Motability
How it works
When accepted onto the right scheme for you, you assign all or part of your allowance to Motability Operations for the period of the Contract Hire or Hire Purchase agreement. This takes place under direct transfer arrangements agreed between Motability and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Once the application is processed, you will receive a letter of confirmation. The Motability specialist at your Ford dealership will help you with the process from application to the delivery of your vehicle.

The Contract Hire Scheme
A car contract hire scheme is available to anyone who has been awarded the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HRMC-DLA) or the War Pensioners Mobility Supplement (WPMS) for one year or more. No credit rating is needed to secure a vehicle as the benefit is paid directly by the Government. The person in receipt of the HRMC-DLA or WPMS does not need to be able to drive the car; up to two named people can be nominated to drive for them as named drivers i.e. parent or a carer of the recipient.

The Contract Hire agreement is based on a fixed-term of three years.

New and Used Hire Purchase
Alternatively, you may prefer hire purchase if you:
  • Want to eventually own your car
  • Need adaptations making and would prefer not to have to reinstall them after three years
  • Cover high annual mileage (i.e. well over 45,000 miles over three years)
If you choose Hire Purchase, you negotiate the price with your Motability accredited Ford dealers. However, it’s important to remember that you’re also responsible for the insurance, repairs, servicing and eventual disposal of the vehicle.
