How it works - three simple steps
How it works - three simple steps
Overview
Some of the details of the process we've described below relate specifically to the Contract Hire scheme. However, we think that you'll find the information useful generally and the service we provide is, of course, always available to you however you choose to fund your vehicle.

Step 1. Choose your car
It is, obviously, very important that you pick the most appropriate vehicle for your requirements.

That’s where the Motability specialist at your local Ford Dealership can help. They can introduce you to our range of stylish vehicles and help you choose the car that will best suit you. We always strongly recommend that before placing an order you take a test drive, or ride, in your preferred vehicle accompanied by a Motability specialist. This will give you a good idea of whether that particular car is suitable for your everyday driving needs.

For example;
  • Can you get in and out of the car with reasonable ease?
  • Is there adequate load space for any equipment you may need when you travel?
  • Can you use the controls comfortably, or will they need to be modified to suit your requirements?
Your Ford Mobility specialist can arrange either an accompanied test drive if you are the driver, or a test ride if you are the passenger. Home visits can also be organised.

Step 2. Place your order
Your Dealer will set up your agreement by entering your details, and those of the car, onto Motability online. The price is now guaranteed against that vehicle from this point. A wide range of adaptations can be ordered at this stage and these will be ready for you when you collect your car. Motability check your eligibility with the Department of Work and Pensions and confirm back to your Dealer (usually within 48 hours) that they can place an order for your vehicle with Ford.

Your Dealer will then be able to advise you when your new car will be delivered – which could be as little as a few weeks.

Step 3. Collect your car
Once a delivery date has been confirmed, the Dealer will finalise your insurance, loss and damage protection details.

When you go to collect your car, the Dealer will give you a comprehensive tour of the car so you can familiarise yourself with key features. While you’re there, you’ll need to sign the hire agreement between yourself and Motability Operations. This can be completed quickly online, using a Personal Identification Number (PIN), which you’ll receive when your application is accepted. At this point your allowance is signed over to Motability Operations to pay for your car.

Finally, if you have an advance payment, this will need to be paid to the Dealer (in one lump sum). Your tax disc will be provided with your car, while Motability Operations will hold the V5 document.
