Cost of ownership
Servicing, maintenance and repair costs are an important consideration for many commercial vehicle owners, due to the high mileage their vehicles drive every year.

The 'cost of ownership' of the new Transit is enviable. See below for more details.

Cost of ownership
Contributing factors include:
  • Strong residual values: due to high quality build, durability and specification
  • Low fuel consumption: due to improved engines and exhaust treatments
  • Competitive SMR: due to enhanced component life, easily replaceable parts and longservice intervals
  • Competitive insurance ratings: due to comprehensive safety and security systems

Servicing
Careful component selection and design gives the new Transit increased service intervals. Key service features include:

All diesel (except the 2.4L Duratorq TDCi 140 PS)
  • Easily accessible engine components
  • 50,000 Km or 2 years service intervals
  • Minor interim service at 25,000 Km or 1 year
2.4L Duratorq TDCi 140 PS diesel
  • 50,000Km or 2 years service intervals
  • No interim service required
2.3L Duratec Petrol
  • 20,000 Km or 1 year service interval

Maintenance
Attention to detail in the design process has increased the durability of components and made them easier to access and repair.

Key features which contribute to this increased durability include:
  • 8 year corrosion protection: achieved by increasing the number of pre-coated panelsin the lower body structure, introducing a PVC coating on the underside of the vehicleand protecting the vehicle side rails with a wax coating
  • ‘Smart’ starting system on all TDCi vehicles: monitors the engine speed during ranking and disengages the starter motor as soon as the engine is able to run by itself
  • Twin batteries are available on all RWD vehicles, which improves start performance

Repair
Thoughtful design and careful component selection also means that New Transit offers competitive repair costs.

Key features which contribute to this include:
  • Re-designing key areas and components: including the bonnet and bumper position aswell as the front lamps
  • Retaining easily repairable sections: three-piece front bumper and fi ve-piece rearbumper
  • Combining design with practicality: the positioning of the wheel arches ensures thatthe alloy wheels are protected against scrape damage

Other factors
Wheels

In case wheels need to be replaced at the side of the road, New Transit includes an easily accessible spare wheel and vehicle jack to ensure that the process can be managed quickly and efficiently.
  • Spare wheel located in a carrier below the vehicle which can be lowered using a winch devise
  • New improved vehicle jack
Corrosion protection

  • Increases panel life
  • Reduces maintenance costs and enhances residual values
‘Smart’ starting system
  • Reduces electrical consumption during cranking
  • Reduces starter motor failurea Enhances starter and battery motor life by 10%
