Ford continues to invest heavily in new technology to ensure the development of environmentally sound and sustainable vehicles.
Environmentally advanced technologies
Cleaner petrol and diesel engines today
Ford’s current range of clean petrol and diesel engines uses advanced technology to deliver reduced CO2 levels, which are among the best around. For example, the new Mondeo 1.8-litre TDCi has significantly better performance and fuel economy and produces around 20% less CO2 than the equivalent 1993 Mondeo model. This is despite the added weight of more advanced safety features and increased levels of equipment, which would usually reduce fuel economy.
The next generation of petrol and diesel engines tomorrow
Next generation direct injection diesel engines with exhaust treatments will burn fuel even more efficiently and cleanly. Ford are also investing in direct injection, turbocharged petrol engines, delivering greater fuel economy without any compromise on performance, so you always enjoy a great drive with minimal additional expense.
Beyond bioethanol our alternative fuel vehicles (AFV)
Aside from bioethanol-powered Flexifuel vehicles, Ford are also developing superior alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) technologies and hybrid power packs. Already a leader in the US, Ford is working on hybrid technology that’s right for Europe. Ford is also at the forefront of hydrogen-powered vehicle development, with both hydrogen internal combustion engines (ICE), and hydrogen fuel cells.
