Outperform yourself
Powertrain Engineering

It is expected that the share of cars sold in Europe, powered by diesel, will soon exceed 50%. Fuel injection and computer management technology have created quieter, higher performing engines – and Ford is right there at the forefront. The Mondeo Diesel uses the 2.0L Duratorq TDCi producing 140bhp. Ford Engineers designed the 2.7L V6 used in both Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles and have recently launched the new 3.6L V8 engine, the V6 and V8 are the most refined diesel engines in the world. Our Engineers also launched the latest generation of engines that power the Transit – the best selling commercial vehicle in the UK.

Over the last seven years, we've focused heavily on designing, marketing and upgrading diesel engines – investing £325 million in Dagenham alone. There's a new state-of-the-art assembly hall, which supports the precision process demanded by the new common rail fuel and turbo charging systems. The enclosed building has controlled access points and air-locked entrances, a fully-filtered and temperature controlled ventilation system. And there's an integrated monitoring system, which quality-checks air continuously.

Right now, 600 people are working on the next generations of diesel engines at Dagenham and Dunton and we have a clear roll-out programme of new and upgraded engines. No wonder we need even more experienced degree-qualified engineers to join us.
