Motability schemes
Choosing a scheme
There are two different schemes available: Contract Hire and Hire Purchase. The most popular option is the Contract Hire scheme. The differences are listed below. If you’re not sure which one would suit you best, your Ford Dealer will be more than happy to help you choose between the two. They’ll also be able to process the application and organise all the paperwork for you.

Contract Hire
Contract Hire is probably the most straightforward and flexible scheme – you simply assign your allowance over to Motability and receive a brand new car every three years. Your allowance covers most of the running costs, all you need to do is fill your car with fuel. Your agreement includes:
  • A brand new car of your choice every three years
  • Insurance, loss and damage protection, personal accident cover for named drivers and passengers
  • Servicing, maintenance and repairs at your Dealer
  • Full breakdown assistance from the RAC
  • Window and windscreen replacement at no extra cost
  • A 60,000 mile allowance during the three years
  • Free replacement tyres fitted by Kwik-Fit
  • The most popular adaptations arranged through your local Motability accredited Ford Dealer
There are many vehicles available at no additional cost to your allowance, but if you do want a higher specification vehicle or one of our larger cars, you will need to pay an additional one-off ‘Advance Payment’ at the beginning of your term.

Hire Purchase
The Hire Purchase Scheme is ideal if you would rather keep your vehicle than replace it every three years. You pay a one-off payment, negotiated at the beginning of the term with your Dealer, and then use your HRMC-DLA to finance the rest, keeping your car at the end. You may prefer Hire Purchase because you need a more expensive vehicle, require more costly or more permanent adaptations to it, or expect to do a high annual mileage.

Hire Purchase is therefore perfect if you want to own your vehicle outright at the end of the term. You are also entitled to any retail discounts or promotions being run by Ford at the time of purchase.

We have made the process as straightforward as possible. Your Motability accredited Ford Dealer will make all the necessary arrangements to transfer your allowance to pay for the balance of the car.

Just like owning any car, you’ll need to organise the insurance, breakdown cover, tax discs, servicing and repairs – but the car will be yours at the end of the term.

Next steps
When accepted onto the right scheme for you, you assign all or part of your allowance to Motability Operations for the period of the Contract Hire or Hire Purchase agreement. This takes place under direct transfer arrangements agreed between Motability and the Department for Work and Pensions.

Once the application is processed, you will receive a letter of confirmation.

The Motability specialist at your Ford Dealership will help you with the process from application to the delivery of your vehicle.
