A host of features have been integrated in the Mondeo's Intelligent Protection System (IPS). Beneath the steel safety cages lies a comprehensive airbag system all ready to spring into action in a fraction of a second.
State-of-the-art airbags, 3-point seatbelts, optimised pre-tensioners and load limiters, advance steering system, anti-submarining seat frames and pedals and improvements to the neck injury protection system provide all occupants with a highly comprehensive safety system.
Safety features
Airbags
The comprehensive package of seven airbags incorporates state-of-the-art technology. At the ready are driver and front seat passenger airbags*, driver and front seat passenger side airbags, driver’s knee airbag and side curtain airbags covering both front and rear rows. The onboard computer systems tailor the deployment of the airbags depending on the type and severity of the collision.
Seat belts with pre-tensioners
Front seatbelts are equipped to spring into action 5-10 milliseconds before airbags are activated to take up any slack between the wearer and the belt.
The outside rear seats include ISOFIX child seat fixings.
Retracting safety pedals
In the event of a severe frontal impact, the brake and clutch pedals have been designed to move away from the driver, providing extra protection for their legs and feet.
Advanced steering column
The steering column has been specially designed to further absorb the energy of an impact and collapse directly away from the driver into the dashboard.
Advanced neck injury protection system
This active protection system helps prevent head and neck injury by pushing the headrest gently but firmly towards the head during a rear impact.
*Note: A child seat should never be placed in the front passenger seat when the Ford vehicle is equipped with an operational front passenger’s airbag. The safest place for children is properly restrained on the rear seat.
