Flexifuel vehicles
A natural approach
Every driver knows that motoring and alcohol don't go together. But beneath the bonnet of a Ford Flexifuel vehicle, it's an altogether different story. Ford’s Flexifuel vehicles run on E85, a blend of 85% bioethanol and 15% unleaded petrol. The ‘flexi’ engine can also run on petrol alone – giving you a practical choice when it’s not possible to fill up with E85.

What exactly is bioethanol fuel?
Bioethanol is alcohol obtained from fermentation of raw materials containing starch and sugar, like sugar beet. Use of these renewable raw materials helps to protect our finite fossil fuel resources. Since the CO2 emitted during combustion is part of the natural cycle, bioethanol is a renewable fuel. Long term, so-called second-generation bioethanol derived from alternative materials such as waste, straw, grasses or wood waste, offers a promising and efficient alternative.

How widespread is bioethanol fuel?
Currently bioethanol (E85) is available in more than 16 European countries. In Sweden, where the Ford Focus Flexifuel vehicle was introduced in 2001, sales of bio-fuel models now account for more than 80% of all Focus and C-MAX models sold. Following its success, Ford have gradually introduced Flexifuel vehicles into many other European countries. Up until October 2007, more than 40,000 Focus and C-MAX Flexifuel vehicles have been sold across Europe. Select the link below to find your nearest E85 filling station.
