Ford ECOnetic Technology
Ford ECOnetic Technology is a customer driven initiative bringing together a range of vehicle features and technologies specifically targeting better fuel economy, reduced emissions and overall lower cost-of-ownership – without compromise to great design or driving dynamics.

For example, EcoBoost petrol engine technology and refined Duratorq diesel engine technology deliver more torque and power with lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (meeting the latest Euro 5 emission standards).

Recently crowned “International Engine of the Year” based on votes cast from 35 countries around the world, Ford’s EcoBoost technology is delivering game-changing innovation for petrol engines globally. The small, high-tech engine was also named “Best New Engine” and “Best Sub 1-litre Engine” respectively.

For customers wanting the best fuel economy and the lowest CO2 emissions Ford continues to offer its dedicated ECOnetic range including the best in class Ford Fiesta at 87g/km.
EcoBoost Engine
EcoBoost
You’ll discover how you can reduce your environmental impact and make savings with a wide range of innovations, including our class-leading range of EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engines, which combine higher power and a broader spread of torque with reduced emissions and lower fuel consumption.

The latest in the EcoBoost range is the new 1.0 petrol engine available on the Focus. This class-leading engine produces the same level of power as a conventional 1.6 petrol unit, but consumes 20% less fuel than other equivalent petrol engines. In fact, thanks to a fundamental re-engineering, its fuel-efficiency is more comparable with a diesel.

Other EcoBoost highlights include the 1.6 EcoBoost 150PS and 182PS petrol engine on the C-MAX, with fuel consumption of 45.6 mpg (6.2l/100km) combined, and the 1.6 160PS petrol engine on the Mondeo. Both deliver more power, while using less fuel and emitting less CO2.
PowerShift
Ford PowerShift delivers a refined, premium driving experience. Featuring a new state-of-the-art six-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission, it cleverly selects the next appropriate gear at exactly the right moment, delivering seamless gear changes with no disruption to the flow of power.

You’ll also enjoy improved fuel economy compared to a conventional automatic transmission. As well as optimising efficiency and fuel consumption, Ford PowerShift has a sport mode that allows you to switch gears at the flick of the gearshift for a more dynamic performance.
Ford Duratorq diesel technology

Our diesel engines use the latest advanced technology to deliver performance with outstanding fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. The Focus ECOnetic with the 1.6 Duratorq TDCI 105 PS diesel engine offers CO2 emissions of only 88 g/km.

The significantly improved Mondeo 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi is available in both 140 PS & 163 PS diesel engines which are smooth, quiet and responsive. On a 5-door Mondeo the diesel engine provides CO2 emissions of only 119g/km, whilst the Estate version produces CO2 emissions of just 120g/km.

Eco Mode
This smart software provides useful advice on achieving better fuel economy according to your driving style. This system assesses the influence of your driving behaviour on fuel consumption -including gearshifting, anticipation (driving as consistently and smoothly as possible) and motorway driving (driving at the most efficient speed on motorways and country roads). In addition, the system considers the percentage of cold-engine short trips.

Ford Eco Mode then generates a driver profile and a score based on areas where you can improve fuel economy. Over time, this technology will help you to save fuel and so reduce running costs while having less impact on the environment.
Gear shift indicator light
The gear-shift indicator in the instrument cluster of select Ford models signals when to change gear at the optimum moment. The system senses the way you're driving, taking account of road gradient, vehicle load and your individual driving style – it then identifies the most suitable gear change point.

By moving more swiftly through the gears, many drivers could cut fuel costs by avoiding unnecessarily high engine speed, reduce CO2 emissions and decrease wear on engine and transmission components.
Ford ECOnetic models
For consumers who want the best fuel economy and the lowest CO2 emissions, we have a range of ECOnetic models.
  • The Fiesta ECOnetic is one of the most fuel efficient five-seater family cars in the Europe. It delivers an outstanding fuel economy of 85.6 mpg (combined cycle) and incredibly low CO2 emissions of just 87 g/km. To achieve its ultra low CO2 emissions, the Fiesta ECOnetic has incorporated a range of simple modifications that include low resistance tyres, lowered sports suspension, modified engine calibration and use of stop-start technology.
  • We’ve also put every effort into making the Transit Custom ECOnetic the most fuel efficient van in its class. Not only does it get you 12.7% further than its standard counterpart, but it also boasts an outstanding 39.2 mpg with low CO2 emissions of 162g/km when fitted with the fixed 62 mph speed limiter – all of which means you save more money per tank.

Crucially, the ECOnetic range doesn’t rely on different fuels, expensive batteries or ‘bolted on’ technology. It’s all thanks to the introduction of smart ideas and clever refinements, which together mean you can benefit from significantly improved fuel consumption.

Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS)
EPAS offers easier, lighter steering when you’re parking in a tight spot. It also gives you firmer steering for more control at higher speeds, when you’re powering down the motorway.

Unlike conventional power-assisted steering that operates continuously and consumes energy and fuel, our EPAS driving technology only operates when it is required, and so helps to enhance your fuel economy.
Smart Regenerative Charging
Smart Regenerative Charging creates 'free' electrical energy when you brake which is used to boost your existing power sources.  This helps to ensure that the battery is kept charged in the most efficient way thus reducing the amount of fuel used.
Auto-Start-Stop
The Ford Auto-Start-Stop system automatically shuts down the engine when the vehicle is at idle – at a red light, for example – and restarts the engine when the driver wants to move off, saving the fuel usually wasted while the vehicle is stationary.

This advanced system has been carefully designed with customer comfort in mind providing consistent starting and stopping performance that is smooth, quiet and seamless – meaning you don't have to make any changes to the way you drive.

The system can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 5% in mixed driving conditions. While in an urban environment and in heavy traffic the savings could increase to as much as 10%.
Active Grille Shutter
This electronically controlled variable grille opening reduces when the vehicle is at speed to improve air flow efficiency and lower fuel consumption.

Additionally, the Active Grille Shutter helps the engine to warm up more quickly in cold weather.
