Save even more with Ford Scrappage
Save even more with Ford Scrappage

As announced by the Government on Wednesday 3 February, the Scrappage Scheme has now been extended. The £2,000 allowance has been extended to 31 March or until funds have been exhausted. The scheme includes cars registered on or before 29 February 2000 (V registration or before) and vans registered on or before 28 February 2002 (Y registration or 51 plate or older).

On top of the Government Scrappage Scheme, Ford is combining this with further great savings on selected Ford vehicles. View Scrappage Promotions here

Your guide to saving money with a new Ford
Buying a new car, right now, may not at first appear to be the most obvious way to save money. But it could. In fact, it could save you a lot more than doing something far less exciting like changing your electricity, gas or water provider.

Savings available when you scrap your qualifying vehicle and buy new
If you currently own a vehicle that qualifies for Scrappage, you could save a lot more when you replace it with a new Ford under the Government Scrappage Scheme*. In fact if you replace your car under the scheme before 31 March you’ll not only qualify for £1,000 from the Government towards your new car, we’ll give you up to a further £3,900 off depending on which Ford model you choose.

With additional free features such as Bluetooth® with Voice Control, Sport Packs and Appearance Packs on selected models in the range, you could be getting even more than you expected. Take a look at our Scrappage promotions here.

Zero deposit available on every single Ford car
Take advantage of Ford Credit to finance your new car and you’ll get a competitive finance rate. Plus, you can choose the length and type of agreement to suit your circumstances – which can also help keep your payments to a minimum. Of course, the other major benefit is that you won’t have to dip into your savings if you don’t want to.

4.9% APR typical on 2 year Ford Options
For a limited time only, selected models in our award-winning range are available with a low fixed rate of 4.9% APR typical on 2 year Ford Options.

Enjoy 14% insurance savings for all brand new* Ford cars if you purchase online
For a limited time** you could reduce your monthly insurance outgoings too. To apply for your 14% insurance discount for all new Ford cars click here.

Additional savings could be available with lower insurance groupings
Many of our vehicles are now in a lower insurance group than previous models. For example, 2006 Fiesta Zetec Climate 1.25 75PS 3-door was in insurance group 4. The Fiesta Zetec 1.25 82PS 3-door is now group 3, which means relative insurance savings for the future.

How to pay less in tax
As of 1 May 2009, Vehicle tax rates for cars registered on or after 1 March 2001 are now split into 13 bands based on their CO2 emissions. So the amount you will pay depends on which band your car is in. The lower a car’s emissions, the lower the vehicle tax payable on it. For instance, the stylish new Fiesta ECOnetic has an ultra low CO2 emissions figure of just 98g/km, so you won’t be paying any tax at all. While the Focus ECOnetic 1.6 TDCi 90PS will cost just £35 a year in tax. Not bad when you consider that the lowest achievable rate for a car over 9 ½ years old is £125 a year and that many come in at the higher rate of £190.

More efficient new engines can mean reduced fuel costs

If you were to compare a 1999 Mondeo 1.8 TDCi LX with its present day equivalent, the Ford kinetic Design shaped 2009 Mondeo 1.8 TDCi ECOnetic, you’d find that a typical year’s driving of 12,000 miles would cost you over £200 less in the latest model***. Similar comparisons can be found across our range and if you’re an above average mileage driver or thinking of down-sizing you could save even more.

Save money by servicing less often
This one will particularly appeal to high mileage drivers who probably feel that service points come round too often. That’s because many of our new cars now need servicing less frequently than their predecessors.

You can even fix your servicing costs, too. Ford Protect Service Assure is an economical way to keep your vehicle in good condition, as it lets you spread the cost of your vehicle's service and maintenance schedule. By paying monthly for them it also helps you budget and protects you against inflation.

There’s no MOT to pay for three years
So there’s another bill you won’t have to worry about.

No need to pay for breakdown cover in your first year either
Every new Ford comes with a year’s breakdown assistance cover, so if you’ve been paying for cover to take the worry out of driving an older car you can save here too.

Make age related repair and maintenance bills a thing of the past
Having to pay for unexpected age-related repairs can sometimes come as a shock and it’s an expense you could probably do without. Unfortunately, breakdowns and failures can become a fact of life when a vehicle is 9 years old, or even older.

Every new Ford, on the other hand, comes with a free 3-year warranty to give you the reassurance that repair bills shouldn’t be a concern.

A new car could save something more important than money

Over the past 9 years, Ford has made huge advances in safety technology. Our cars now incorporate advanced measures such as state of the art airbags, whiplash prevention systems, safety pedals, electronic brake force distribution and anti-lock braking systems. You might be able to save money when you buy a new Ford, but you can be sure it’s not at the expense of your safety.

Reduce your emissions and lessen impact on the environment
All new Ford cars built after January 2005 comply with the stringent Euro 4 European Emission Standard, which covers emissions of nitrogen oxide, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulate matter. It’s another reason to feel good about buying one of our new cars.

Scrappage Scheme extended
05 February 2010 - As announced by the Government on Wednesday 3 February, the Scrappage Scheme has now been extended. The £2,000 allowance is now available until 31 March or until funds have been exhausted. The scheme includes cars registered on or before 29 February 2000 (V registration or before) and vans registered on or before 28 February 2002 (Y registration or 51 plate or older).
Scrappage Scheme extended
22 October 2009 - As announced by Lord Mandelson, the Scrappage Scheme has been extended. The £2,000 allowance will now include cars registered on or before 29 February 2000 (V registration or before) and vans registered on or before 28 February 2002 (Y registration or 51 plate or older). The Government has also released additional funds, so the scheme is available to a further 100,000 applicants.
Phil scores with Scrappage
August 2009 - It’s not just cars that have been selling like hotcakes under the Scrappage Scheme: many business users have taken the opportunity to trade in their old vans, too.

One high-profile customer at Inchcape Ford Wokingham is Phil Parkes, a former professional footballer who was goalkeeper for Queens Park Rangers, West Ham and England in the 1970s and ’80s.

Phil, who now runs a bespoke building firm and scrapped his 11-year-old Transit, is enthusiastic about the Scrappage Scheme. Saying that although his old Transit would probably have gone on for years, he couldn’t resist the opportunity to buy a new, 350 long-wheelbase high-roof van for his business.

So far, 800 Ford commercial vehicles from Fiesta vans to Transits have replaced old models under the programme, thanks to extra Scrappage savings, of up to £4,000 (exc. VAT), from Ford.

Scrappage Scheme helps take Dean out on the range
August 2009 - Dean Gibbs took advantage of the Scrappage Scheme and a low-rate finance plan to buy a brand new Ford. He scrapped an 11-year-old Astra van and is now the proud owner of a Ranger four-door 4x4 pick-up from Inchcape Ford Wokingham. Dean, aged 22, works in the building trade, although the Ranger is for his private and recreational use. He is a keen fisherman and shooter and carries his three Labradors in a purpose-built cage in the back of the pick-up.

“They love it,” he says, “and you just wouldn’t believe the places I’ve been in this vehicle. I’ve tried other 4x4s but this is the best.”

Inchcape Ford Wokingham’s new car retail manager David Donovan says, “We’ve made more than 300 Scrappage sales since the scheme started and already have 30 orders for new 59-plate models. It’s been a really big boost to sales.”

Safety benefits underlined by industry experts
August 2009 - Ford has now helped to replace all those less safe older cars and vans with new vehicles under the Scrappage Scheme, and have also helped to bring significant benefits to road safety.

Neil Greig, director of policy and research for the Institute of Advanced Motorists, says, “The main road safety advantage of the Scrappage Scheme is the faster introduction of new, safe cars into the market. Modern cars with airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, side impact protection, crumple zones, anti-lock brakes and, in particular, the Electronic Stability Programme, can help avoid the onset of a crash and ameliorate the outcome. New cars will help bring down the toll of death and serious injury.”

10 or more years ago, fewer airbags were fitted. Even where a driver’s airbag was standard, a passenger airbag was an optional extra. In 1999, Mondeo offered, for additional cost, a side impact airbag. Today the new Ka offers driver and passenger airbag as standard with curtain and side airbags as optional extras, while the Mondeo, Galaxy and S-MAX offer driver, passenger, side, front and rear curtain and knee bolster airbags.

In NCAP safety tests, the top-selling Ford Fiesta scores strongly compared with other
models selling under the scheme. Fiesta was awarded five stars in adult occupant protection and all have front seatbelt pretensioners, front seatbelt load limiters, driver frontal airbag, front passenger frontal airbag, side body airbags, side head airbags and driver knee airbag.

A new car every 27 years...
August 2009 - The team at County Garage in Herne Bay was delighted when, after 27 years, Stanley O’Shea decided to change his Ford Fiesta Bravo. Mr O’Shea, 76, bought the car new from the Dealership in 1982 but recently decided to change it for the new Ford Ka Style+.

He paid £3,744 for the car originally, and benefitted from £2,000 towards the new model under the Scrappage Scheme.

Mr O’Shea said the car had done only 67,000 miles and had always been well looked after, so he probably wouldn’t have changed if it were not for the scheme. When he bought his Fiesta Bravo it ‘boasted’ halogen headlamps, passenger door mirror and removable sunroof!

Scrappage Scheme
Scrappage Scheme set for early finish
1 August 2009 – With so many vehicles being bought under the Scrappage Scheme since its launch in April, it’s thought funding may run out by autumn. Ford is urging customers to ‘get in quick’ to take advantage of the limited availability Scrappage Allowance, having seen sales soar.

As the UK’s top-selling vehicle brand for the past 32 years, Ford is already a top choice for new car buyers. Ford Dealerships have seen huge interest in small car models, such as the new Ka and new Fiesta, and larger models such as the S-MAX 2.0 Titanium and popular crossover vehicle, the Kuga.

Since launch, 84,361 vehicles have been registered under the Scrappage Scheme with 11,576 of these being a Ford.

Clean Green awards 5 stars to the Ford S-MAX
July 2009 - The Ford S-MAX Titanium, with a ‘5 star’ environment rating from environmental website Clean Green Cars, and CO2 emissions of just 159g/km, is one of our Scrappage star buys.
This goes to show that the Scrappage Scheme can help reduce overall CO2 emissions. With new cars being ‘greener’ than their predecessors, the average CO2 emissions of a Scrappage trade-in car is over 180g/km* compared to an average of under 135g/km for Ford models bought under the Scrappage Scheme.

*Assuming the traded in models have the national average CO2 output of all cars in 1998
Is this the oldest car so far?
July 2009 – Polar Ford Wilmslow has sold a Mondeo Zetec Estate, 2.3-litre petrol automatic in Sea Grey, in exchange for a 1988 Ford Grosvenor Limo – possibly the only car of its type scrapped as part of the scheme. The customer was Brian Sharples & Son, funeral directors of Stockport, and the new Mondeo will be used as a direct replacement for the Grosvenor, to carry passengers in funeral processions.

Scrappage saves lives: RoSPA backs safety effect
Scrappage saves lives: RoSPA backs safety effect
July 2009 - The Scrappage Scheme looks set to have a major impact on improving road safety. Ford’s advanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS) is a package of safety measures, both active and passive, that work together to offer vehicle occupants optimum protection.

Few cars over 10 years old will be fitted with an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) which is included as part of Ford's IPS package. ESP senses when the vehicle is losing grip and automatically applies a braking force to individual wheels, to stabilise it. The system uses advanced sensors to monitor the car’s behaviour, helping the driver to keep control whatever the conditions.

An effectiveness study by the Department for Transport (DfT) has concluded that if every vehicle sold were fitted with ESP, 380 lives could be saved and 7,800 accidents could be avoided every year on UK roads.

RoSPA road safety manager Duncan Vernon says, “We’re enthusiastic about the road safety benefits of the Scrappage Scheme, simply because new cars are, generally speaking, better designed than old ones". The DfT estimated that between 2000 and 2005, ‘improved crashworthiness’ of vehicles reduced the number of occupant fatal and serious injuries by 5.8 per cent.

RoadSafe director Adrian Walsh says: “Safety should be a high priority for customers. ESP is the most significant safety advance since the seat belt; the scrappage scheme now provides the opportunity to reduce risk significantly by buying a modern ESP equipped car.” All new Ford models are available with ESP, many as standard.
