Mechanic carrying out wear and tear checks
Wear and tear checks to avoid needless repairs
Every vehicle is prone to wear and tear to some extent. But by having yours checked regularly, you can keep every part of it running smoothly and so prevent unnecessary – and often expensive – repairs later on.

Our Dealers offer a general check and other specific ‘Wear and Tear checks’, which you can find out about using the tabs below.

Free Visual Healthcheck by trained technicians
Whenever you bring your vehicle in for a service or repair, you can choose to have a Visual Healthcheck, free of charge.

Our trained technicians will run an expert eye over your vehicle They’ll check 29 different points, and provide a written report with an explanation of any findings. You’ll receive a competitive estimate upfront for any work needed, but you’re under no obligation to have it done.

To help you decide, the written report grades each element of the healthcheck according to the following colour codes.

Red items
Require urgent attention.

Amber items
Some concerns registered. If not rectified, these items need monitoring to ensure safety and/or reliability and to avoid additional costs.

Green items
Have been checked and are in satisfactory condition.
Our expert staff will explain the report fully to you, to help you decide what action to take, if any.

You can have a free Visual Healthcheck at your Ford Dealer or Rapid Fit Centre. You can find them using our Dealer Locator.

Air conditioning check
This is designed to spot any faults or failings in the air conditioning system, before they affect its performance or cause permanent and expensive damage.

The check includes:

  • An operational inspection of all functional elements.
  • A visual inspection of the refrigeration system for contamination and damage.
  • An inspection for leaks.
  • A technical performance test.

We recommend that your air conditioning system is recharged with gas and lubricant every two years. This is because around 15% of the air-con gas escapes naturally each year, making the system increasingly inefficient.

Oil and filter change
A quick, simple oil and filter check can save you a lot of time, money and hassle later on.

Engine oil lubricates, cools, insulates and cleans your engine. So you need to change it once a year, to keep your car performing at its best. This will also lower your fuel consumption, saving you money and reducing your CO2 emissions.

On the other hand, old engine oil or a clogged and dirty filter can lead to serious engine wear and damage.

Although an oil and filter check is included in a vehicle service, you might prefer get an individual check done occasionally, just to be on the safe side.

Wiper blade replacement
Wiper blades which aren’t working efficiently can affect your visibility and, at worst, cause an accident.

Ozone, airborne contaminants, oil, sunlight and dirt combine to weaken and damage them, even if they’re not used very often. That’s why all Ford wiper blades have a wear indicator to tell you when they need changing.

Replacement blades are available for all our models at your Ford Dealer, including our advanced flat blades with a very low profile for improved wind resistance at high speed.

Free tyre safety checks
Good tyres are vital for safe driving, as they affect the steering, braking and acceleration of any vehicle.

They’re especially important on wet roads which are pretty common in the UK. In fact, worn tyres can increase your stopping distance by up to 70% in damp conditions.

It’s also illegal to let your tyres become worn beyond a certain point. All of which means taking advantage of the free safety checks at Ford Dealers – or learning how to check tyres yourself – is a must.

Any costs of repairs are met by Ford provided the bodywork is cared for as described in your owner's guide. Damage or rusting should be reported immediately to your Ford dealer or to a Ford Accident Repair centre. The bi annual body and paint check is carried out and your service record is stamped. Any corrosion caused by an outside agency, chip or impact damage is however not covered.
