3. Is Ford Econo Check available for Ford vehicles with automatic transmission?
For the time being, the Ford Econo Check is exclusively available to Ford Petrol and Diesel models with manual transmission. This is because the data logger/evaluation software does not differentiate between the fuel operation modes which have direct impact on the estimated saving potential calculation.
4. What if I return the Ford Econo Check data logger after more than 7 days?
The data logger only records the first 7 days of the driving cycle. A longer period will not be considered for your individual Ford Econo Check report.
5. How often can I have a Ford Econo Check with my vehicle?
As often as you like. Contact your Ford Dealer if you are interested in repeating the Ford Econo Check.
6. Where can I have a Ford Econo Check?
You can have the Ford Econo Check carried out at all participating Ford Dealers (ask your Ford Dealer).
7. When can I have a Ford Econo Check?
The Ford Econo Check can be performed as part of a routine service, a stand-alone service, an add-on to a seasonal check, or any other check at your Ford dealer.
8. What kind of data is stored?
The data logger records fuel consumption-relevant data, such as speed, engine revs, engine coolant temperature, engine load and time.
9. What happens to my saved data?
At Ford, we respect the privacy of every customer and prospective customer. Any personal data that you provide will be handled by Ford within the existing local data protection law.
10. Can I remove the data logger myself?
This depends on the vehicle model or specification. In principle, we recommend that you ask your Ford dealer to remove it for you after the 7-day driving period. However, for selected vehicles (new Fiesta, Focus, C-MAX and old Transit Connect) you may remove the data logger yourself if you feel comfortable to do so. In this case, the Ford Dealer will show you the position of the data logger.
11. Where do I have to return the data logger to?
You can find the address on the prepaid, self-addressed return envelope which you received from your Ford Dealer when the data logger was installed.
12. Can I remove the data logger during my evaluation period?
Not advisable, as important data cannot be stored for your personal analysis. The evaluation period of 7 days cannot be extended as it counts from the day of the first installation.
13. Can I swap the data logger between 2 or more vehicles during the evaluation period?
No. The data logger is not capable of storing data from different Ford vehicles within the same evaluation period.
14. Can I carry out the Ford Econo Check with a non-Ford vehicle?
The Ford Econo Check is a unique Ford innovation and is offered exclusively for Ford vehicles.
15. Where is the data logger installed in my vehicle?
Your Ford Dealer attaches the data logger to the OBD II interface. The exact position in the vehicle interior varies by model.
16. Should I worry that my vehicle will be damaged when fitting or detaching the data logger?
No, as long as your Authorised Ford Dealer fits the data logger to your vehicle. If you plan to remove the data logger yourself, please ask your Ford Dealer what you need to consider.
17. Could cleaning the interior compromise the data logger’s functionality?
No. The data logger will continue to function even after cleaning the vehicle and its interior.
18. Can using a mobile phone compromise the data logger’s functionality?
No. You can use your mobile phone as usual.
19. Does the data logger drain the battery?
No. The data logger doesn’t drain the battery as it turns into a "sleep" mode once the ignition is turned off.
20. Will the data logger interfere with any vehicle electronics?
No. The data logger is fully tested and will not affect vehicle electronics in any way.
21. Could a navigation system have any negative impact on the data logger’s functionality?
No. The data logger and navigation system function independently of each other.
22. What should I do if I’ve lost my return card or prepaid envelope?
Just ask your Ford Dealer. He’ll be happy to replace them if required.
23. How do I receive my personal Ford Econo Check report?
The Ford Econo Check report is sent to you conveniently by email as a PDF document. That’s why it’s important for you to specify your email address on the return card.
24. What happens if I send in the data logger, but forget the return card?
Without a correctly filled in return card, we cannot send you your personal Ford Econo Check report.
25. How is my annual saving potential calculated?
Your annual saving potential is based on your shifting, speed and anticipation behaviour. The values generated from the 7-day evaluation period are projected for a whole year considering the latest average fuel prices.
26. What is considered to be hard braking and hard acceleration outlined in the customer report (see page 2, left-hand center graphic)?
Accelerations exceeding 0.5 g (gravitation g = 9.81 m/sec²) are considered as hard accelerations. The Ford Econo Check software uses defined acceleration / deceleration thresholds which exceed normal driving practice and are being regarded as acceleration / deceleration in case of emergency.
27. What happens if the customer does not return the data logger?
In this case the customer cannot receive a personal Ford Econo Check report.
28. What is Ford Econo Check?
A 35-point visual health check and a personal post driving style analysis based on Eco Driving criteria, such as anticipation, shifting and speed.
29. How long does the Ford Econo Check take?
Once your Ford dealer has finished the vehicle check, you have to drive for 7 days with the data logger. Then, after having returned the data logger together with the return card, you will receive your personal customer report after a further week's time at the latest.
30. Who is the Ford Econo Check targeted at?
To all owners of eligible Ford vehicles built from 1998 onwards. In case of any doubt, please ask your Ford Dealer.
31. What are the customer benefits?
You can be assured that all fuel- and safety-related parts are in a good condition prior to starting the driving cycle. Improving your driving style according to the individual driving tips means saving fuel = saving money = reducing your carbon footprint.
32. Is any personal info/data stored on the data logger about the driver/customer?
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is captured, depending on the vehicle application. Once the data has been extracted to create the personal report, you can be ensured that all customer data will be deleted.
33. What happens if the data logger is damaged or stops working?
In the unlikely event that the data logger is damaged or does not work, please contact your Ford Dealer.
34. My typical driving profile (home to work / family / shopping) contains more than 90% city and the rest is motorway. Do I have a chance to improve my fuel saving potential?
Yes, and in particular anticipation and shifting will have the most fuel saving potential influence under these driving conditions.
35. How does Ford Econo Check determine/calculate the estimated fuel saving potential?
By use of a mathematical algorithm based on homologated vehicle fuel consumption and recognition of the three key parameters: anticipation, up-shifting and high speed.
36. How is Ford Econo Check related to Ford Eco-Driving?
Ford Econo Check refers to standard Eco-Driving recommendations.
