Our new family of technologically advanced EcoBoost petrol engines reduce fuel consumption, and lower CO2 emissions.

The reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions is achieved by burning fuel in the most efficient and cleanest way possible.

These engines offer an attractive alternative to diesel or hybrid power units, delivering highly competitive fuel economy and low cost-of-ownership. The line-up will comprise 1.6-litre engine for the new Ford C-MAX and 2.0-litre engine for the large car range.

Low CO2 models without compromise

The second generation Focus ECOnetic builds on our approach to create cars that are as fuel efficient as possible today, without compromising the driving experience. This vehicle, equipped with the Ford Auto-Start-Stop system, goes a long way to delivering that goal, with just 99 g/km CO2 emissions and delivering 74.2mpg .

The Ford Auto-Start-Stop system automatically cuts the engine when the vehicle is stationary, for example at traffic lights. As soon as the driver prepares to move away, the engine starts quietly. In fact, the system stops and starts the engine so smoothly and seamlessly, there's no need to alter driver behaviour.

Better still, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions can be reduced by 5% in mixed driving conditions. The Focus ECOnetic also uses Smart Regenerative Charging to conserve battery power, by adapting the charge going into the battery according to the way the vehicle is being driven.

Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)

Our prototype battery electric Focus represents a huge leap forward for zero emission and ultra-low carbon cars.

For example, the 15 battery electric Focus cars will be tested in the UK for its suitability as a commercial product. The Focus has been chosen because its class-leading attributes like comfort, handling and loadspace.

The all-electric engine supplied by Magna is a state-of-the-art lithium-ion pack that delivers a range of 75 miles. It also has a top speed of 85 mph and only takes six to eight hours to fully charge.

The success of this UK Government trial programme could also open the door for similar prototype cars to be trialled in other European countries.
