Strong Ford car sales helped boost its UK leadership in May with increased sales and share recorded for the month, compared with May 2010.
Official figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that total UK car sales in May, compared with May 2010, were down 1.7 per cent to 150,431 units. Ford car sales of 21,581 were up from 21,300 in May 2010 and Ford's share of total car sales was 14.3 per cent, up from 13.9 per cent.
The strong customer appeal of its fresh, exciting car range underpinned Ford's continued strength in retail car sales, indicated by a May retail market share of 11.5 per cent, up from 10.8 per cent in May 2010. For the year to date Ford share of retail car sales is 12.8 per cent.
Ford Transit increased sales in May from 3,449 to 4,426 compared with May 2010, while for the year to date Transit sales were up from 17,075 to 24,525 and its medium CV share increased from 23.6 to 25.4 per cent, compared with the same period in 2010. Total Ford CV sales increased in May from 4,796 to 5,514, compared with May 2010 and year to date have increased from 23,985 to 31,130, compared with the same period last year.
