Versatile Transit hailed as ‘a perfect solution’

Tool supplier Hilti invests in 55 specially-equipped demonstration vans.

Britain’s businesses buy Transits for a number of reasons: wholelife costs, reliability, durability and fit for purpose among them.

For Hilti, a leading supplier of tools to the construction industry, the decision to invest in a fleet of 55 specially-equipped Transit demonstration vans was taken because Transit is seen as “a perfect solution.”

Fitted with a power generation system, bespoke storage and racking and equipped with more than 25 tools, including Hilti’s new petrol saw, range of breakers and cordless tools, the Transit 280 Limited models are replacing cars. The ‘Limited’ specification includes alloy wheels, air conditioning, a CD player with steering wheel controls and 10-way heated driver’s seat.

Explaining the switch, Hilti marketing director Jonathan Smith said: “We sell direct to the construction industry, and most sales depend on a demonstration of the product. As tools have grown in size, weight and complexity they have become more difficult to carry in a car, so we needed to look at a safer, better way of transporting the products and also a way of making it easier to give a demonstration of them. We looked at all sorts of vehicles and our search led us to the Transit as a perfect solution.”

Ford fleet business manager Stephen Iles, said: “Hilti is the brand leader in tools for the construction industry and the Transit has been the brand leader in meeting construction industry transport needs for 44 years – it’s the ideal partnership.”

Other recent Transit orders include 50 low emission Transit ECOnetic vans for On Stream, a National Grid company which provides gas and electricity metering solutions, and an order from Southampton-based building services company BSA Regal for Transit 260 vans.
