Ford builds a lasting legacy

Being a good corporate citizen is an essential part of how Ford does business, both globally and locally.

The importance Ford places on its corporate social responsibility – being willing to help others, being environmentally conscious and socially tolerant – is part of Henry Ford’s enduring legacy. It is a legacy that has helped steer Ford to a place in the list of the world’s 100 most ethical large companies issued by the Ethisphere Institute, a New York think tank.

Ford is the only car manufacturer in the list drawn up from thousands of companies in 36 industries from more than 100 countries. Others in the list include American Express, Nike, General Electric and Google.

“At Ford, we’re not only committed to making great products and building a strong business, we believe in contributing to a better world and doing business in an ethical way,” said executive chairman Bill Ford.

There are many reasons why Ford was included in the list. In terms of global sustainability, it is about meeting the needs of the present without compromising the future, doing it in ways including best practice in product sustainability, renewable energy, greener vehicle distribution and vehicle recycling.

It also includes Ford’s integration of human rights into its overall strategy with a formal code of basic working conditions used in the company’s operations around the world.
