Powertrain
The power to deliver a top quality job is the key to success in any business. So our comprehensive range of engines and transmissions, plus the choice between Front-Wheel Drive (FWD), Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) or All-Wheel Drive (AWD) have been developed to withstand the rigours of working life and to provide the power just when you need it most.
Powerful and efficient
Our line-up of Duratorq TDCi diesel engines uses advanced design and technology to boost performance and efficiency. The latest common rail fuel-injection system helps shape a hard-working combination of horsepower and torque for superior load carrying and towing capability.
Diesel Front-Wheel Drive (FWD)
2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine, available in two power and torque configurations:
• 115 PS/300 Nm – Durashift 6-speed manual transmission
• 140 PS/350 Nm – Durashift 6-speed manual transmission
Diesel Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
2.4-litre Duratorq TDCi engine, available in three power and torque configurations:
• 100 PS/285 Nm - Durashft 5-speed manual transmission or Durashift 6-speed transmission with optional cDPF
• 115 PS/310 Nm - Durashift 6-speed manual transmission
• 140 PS/375 Nm - Durashift 6-speed manual transmission

While the 3.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine delivers:
• 200 PS/470 Nm – Durashift 6-speed manual transmission
Choosing the right drive
There are advantages to each method of drive on a Transit. So to help you choose the right option, here are the advantages of each.
What does Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) offer?
• Lower kerb weight
• Improved payload
• Lower frame height
• Improved fuel economy
What does Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) offer?
• Versatile and traditional choice for Chassis Cabs
• Best suited for heavier duty applications
• Beat payload latitude - the ability to cope with variable payload positions
• Ideally suited for towing applications
• Dual rear wheels are standard on all 3.5T GVM Chassis Cabs for improved traction and rear axle capacity
What does All-Wheel Drive (AWD) offer?
• Additional traction in difficult driving conditions, such as loose surfaces or heavy snow
• 'Intelligent' automatic system requires no driver input
• Under normal conditions drive is directed just to the rear wheels. In slippery conditions, the system increases drive to the front wheels to enhance traction
• Suited for rescue services or utlity companies where field and track work is frequently undertaken

Please note, AWD is only available with Single Rear-Wheel (SRW).
Rear-Wheel configuration
Dual or single rear-wheels are available so that your Transit Chassis Cab perfectly matches your operational and bodywork needs.
What does Dual Rear-Wheel (DRW) offer?
• Standard on all 3.5T, 3.5T HD and 4.6T models
• Provides increased rear axle capacity and loading latitude
• Best all-round combination, but ideally suited to high payload/high traction
• Available only with Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
What does Single Rear-Wheel (SRW) offer?
• Optional on Rear-Wheel Drive 3.5T models and standard on all Front-Wheel Drive models
• Ideally suited to narrow bodywork in confined, rural or urban environments
• Available with front-, rear- and all-wheel drive (FWD, RWD, AWD)
• Helps reduce fuel consumption* when combined with Front-Wheel Drive (FWD)
• If you choose all-wheel drive (AWD) or front-wheel drive (FWD), single rear wheel (SRW) is mandatory

Outstanding dynamics
When you spend a lot of time in a vehicle, Transit’s outstanding dynamics help reduce your stress and tiredness levels. This has been achieved through careful component selection and engineering design. The steering is lighter and more responsive, making it easier to drive in congested towns or manoeuvre in tight parking spaces. The ride is also smoother, both laden or unladen, thanks to improved suspension balance.

Once on the move, the smooth acceleration through the rev range, regardless of load or driving conditions, will reduce driving effort. In addition, driver fatigue has been cut by making the cabin more car-like, by carefully reducing noise, vibration and harshness – whatever the road surface.
Driving safety
Work is hard enough. So we’ve designed the Transit Chassis Cab to be easier to handle and drive by incorporating:

• Four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS)
• Brake-force distribution (BD) to prevent rear-wheel lock-up
• Brake Traction Control System (BTCS), which stops wheelspin when pulling away
• Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Brake Assist, so you can remain composed and in control in any situation. (Please note that ESP is not available with All Wheel Drive (AWD))
Headlamp courtesy delay
When you get out of your Transit Chassis Cab at night, the lights are activated so they remain on for 30 seconds. An added bit of security that helps illuminate the way from your vehicle.
All-wheel drive (AWD)
This provides the driver with that extra bit of confidence just when it’s needed most on slippery surfaces, on or off-road. Our unique and innovative AWD diverts drive to the front wheels when grip is lost. This added traction doesn’t affect the exemplary on-road performance (Please note that AWD only comes with Single Rear Wheel (SRW)).
Hill Launch Assist (HLA)
This prevents you from rolling backwards when making a hill start. After releasing the brake pedal when stationary, HLA keeps the wheels braked, leaving you enough time to move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator without the van moving.
