Cost of ownership
Servicing, maintenance and repair (SMR) costs are an important consideration, due to the high mileage your vehicles might cover every year. With that in mind we have designed the Transit to reduce the 'cost of ownership' to the very minimum.
Keeping costs to a minimum
• Strong residual values due to high quality build, durability and specification
• Low fuel consumption due to improved engines and exhaust treatments
• Enhanced component life, easily replaceable parts and long service intervals
• Competitive insurance ratings due to comprehensive safety and security systems
Reducing ownership costs
Thanks to careful component selection and design, we are confident that lower servicing costs will help reduce your ownership costs. Key service features include:
All diesel engines (except the 3.2-litre Duratorq TDCi 200 PS)
• Easily accessible engine components
• 15,000 m or 1-year service intervals
3.2-litre Duratorq TDCi 200 PS diesel engine
• 30,000 km or 2-year service intervals
• No interim service required
Improved component life span
Attention to detail in the design process has increased the life span of components and made them easier to access and repair. Here are some of the factors that have increased durability:

• 8-year corrosion protection: achieved by increasing the number of pre-coated panels in the lower body structure, introducing a PVC coating on the underside of the vehicle and protecting the vehicle side rails with a wax coating
• ‘Smart’ starting system on all TDCi vehicles: monitors the engine speed during cranking and disengages the starter motor as soon as the engine is able to run by itself
• Twin batteries are available on all rear-wheel drive vehicles. This allows the second battery to power whatever accessory is needed when the engine is switched off, leaving the primary battery in a high state of charge for dependable start and run operation
Competitive repair costs
Thoughtful design and careful component selection also means that Transit offers competitive repair costs. Here are some of the key factors:

• Redesigned key areas and components including the bonnet and bumper position as well as the front lights
• Retaining easily repairable sections: three-piece front bumper and five-piece rear bumper
Easy tyre changing
Transit includes an easily accessible spare wheel and vehicle jack to ensure the process can be managed quickly and efficiently.

• Spare wheel is located in a carrier below the vehicle and it can be easily lowered using a winch
Corrosion protection
• Increases panel life
• Reduces maintenance costs and enhances residual values
‘Smart’ starting system
• Reduces electrical consumption during cranking
• Reduces starter motor failure and enhances starter motor and battery life by 10%
