Ford Transit

Keeping your passengers and loads safe and secure at all times is of paramount importance. So Transit is built with class-leading security and the most comprehensive safety package in the business – from the PATS immobiliser and high-security shielded locks, to options including a Thatcham Category 1 alarm, slam locking and configurable unlocking.

You can rest easy, no matter where you park your van. Transit features:

• Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) disables the engine when your key isn’t in the ignition. The engine only primes when you use an ignition key with the unique code recognised by the PATS system

• High-security shielded locks with strengthened mountings to prevent lock tampering

• Unique lock-in-latch door lock system eliminates cables and rods between the lock and latch, making it virtually impossible to gain unauthorised entry

• Central and double locking, key-operated bonnet release and locking fuel cap to thwart potential thieves

• Configurable locking so you can choose which doors to unlock and in which order, using selected buttons on the remote key fob

• Slam locking which immediately closes and locks the cargo doors, provided you have locked the vehicle using the remote key fob

• Shielded spare wheel support

• Visible Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

• Optional Thatcham Category 1 perimeter and interior scanning alarm with trailer monitoring which monitors the trailer coupling and activates if unauthorised trailer removal is detected

• Perimeter alarm, standard on some series, which activates if unauthorised trailer removal is detected

As a further deterrent, an alarm system is available, with an interior scanner and independent battery back-up to protect your sound investment. This alarm also monitors trailer coupling, to protect whatever you might be towing. All help to improve insurance ratings and lower insurance costs.

Passenger safety

Transit has a high level of structural crash integrity to absorb and channel crash energy away from all occupants. We have also strengthened the front seat pedestal to offer improved occupant restraint.

Once an impact occurs, a second level of passive safety is triggered. Transit has a driver’s airbag as standard, and optional front passenger and side curtain airbags which all help protect the most precious of cargoes. (The passenger airbag is a large-volume airbag which covers both passenger and dual seats.)

Driving safety

Work is hard enough, so Transit is designed to be as easy to operate and drive as possible.

There are four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) which combine automatically to provide the correct balance of brake-force between front and rear wheels. This helps prevent the rear wheels from locking-up, particularly when driving laden. Handling is further enhanced with standard Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), an industry first (not available on petrol engines and AWD). This automatically adjusts power and braking keeping the vehicle on the right track. Vehicles with ESP also have Hill Launch Assist(HLA) as standard – making it easier to pull away on a slope as there’s no need to use the handbrake.

And finally, Transit also has a Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) which helps avoid wheelspin when pulling away, particularly advantageous when you’ve two wheels on a grass verge.

Cruise control

Controlled from two switches mounted on an ergonomically-designed 4-spoke leather steering wheel, cruise control makes travelling long distances far less tiring.

All-wheel drive (AWD)

This provides the driver with that extra bit of confidence just when it’s needed most on slippery surfaces, on or off-road. Our unique and innovative AWD diverts drive to the front wheels when grip is lost. This added traction complements the exemplary on-road performance. All-Wheel Drive is available on the 330S, 350M and 350L variants.
