Duratec petrol engines
Flexifuel engines
You no longer need to sacrifice performance when choosing a vehicle with an alternative fuel engine. Our Flexifuel engines can run on bioethanol or conventional unleaded petrol, or a mixture of both and still deliver the same performance as the Duratec petrol engine on which they’re based.
Duratorq TDCi diesel engines
Refined, smooth, and economical, Duratorq TDCi diesel engines feature common rail systems. They deliver a quieter and more efficient drive, thanks to a two-stage fuel injection process that ensures precisely the right amount of fuel is used.
And to give you extra acceleration for overtaking (especially in fourth or fifth gear), most Duratorq TDCi engines are equipped with an overboost function, which allows the engines temporarily to deliver around 10% more pulling power (torque).
A range of Duratorq TDCi diesel engines is also available with Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF), which help reduce the levels of particulate matter released into the air, making them even cleaner.
Unlike a normal filter which requires periodic replacement, the DPF has been designed to regenerate, or clean itself to maintain operating efficiency. The regeneration process takes place automatically. However, some driving conditions mean that you may need to support the regeneration process.

For example, the 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi engine with DPF, powers our greenest family car Fiesta ECOnetic model, delivering an average fuel consumption of 76.3 mpg and a CO2 emissions figure of just 98 g/km. The whole ECOnetic range runs on Duratorq diesel engines and is both fuel-efficient and cleaner.
