Engines and technology
The Mondeo is a more exhilarating drive, thanks to a line-up of refined, powerful and fuel-efficient engines. Whatever demands you make of the vehicle, there's an ideal engine and transmission combination to match your needs without compromising on driving enjoyment.

Part of the innovative range of Ford ECOnetic Technologies, advanced 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engines are both now available. Next-generation diesel and petrol engines deliver improved driving dynamics, while technologies like Ford PowerShift transmission and Auto-Start-Stop are reducing environmental impact further still.
EcoBoost 1.6-litre
The Mondeo offers the 1.6-litre 160 PS (240 Nm) EcoBoost engine with CO2 of only 149 g/km. This turbocharged petrol engine improves power and fuel efficiency with reduced emissions by up to 20% compared to conventional petrol engines of a larger capacity. Its responsiveness and broad spread of power at low rpm levels combined with reduced size, weight and fuel economy mean a more exhilarating driving experience with reduced emissions.
EcoBoost 2.0-litre
The 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine is available as a 240 PS (340 Nm). With the PowerShift six-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission there's no compromise on driving enjoyment and plenty of power just when you need it, while CO2 emissions are just 179 g/km.
PowerShift transmission
The advanced PowerShift six-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission makes driving easier and more fuel-efficient. With PowerShift you can benefit from an improvement of up to 10% in fuel economy when compared to a conventional automatic. Engines equipped with PowerShift are the 2.0-litre EcoBoost (240 PS) and it is available as an option on the 2.0-litre (140 and 163 PS) Duratorq TDCi.
2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi
Our diesel engines use the latest advanced technology to deliver performance with outstanding fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. The 1.6-litre 115 PS TDCi diesel engine, with Auto-Start-Stop has 270 Nm of torque (290 with Overboost) but delivers 114 g/km of CO2. The 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi 163 PS (340 Nm) diesel engine is smooth, quiet and responsive. It offers CO2 emissions of only 139 g/km for the six-speed manual transmission version, while the PowerShift transmission option has CO2 emissions of just 149 g/km
Stage 5 emission standards
Mondeo engines are fully compliant with the stringent Euro 5 emissions standards resulting in lower emissions and CO2 output.
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Traction Assist (TA) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
Demonstrating our commitment to safety, these features are fitted as standard across the Mondeo series. ESP with TA monitors the rotation of the wheels, as well as the steering wheel angle, yaw angle and sideways movement. If the sensors detect either the front or rear tyres slipping, the onboard computer modifies the engine power and applies the brakes to individual wheels. This provides an enhanced traction control function by reducing engine torque if the wheels spin when you accelerate. Your ability to pull away on slippery roads or loose surfaces is therefore improved with added benefits to your driving safety.

EBA ensures full braking force is available whenever necessary, helping reduce stopping distances in an emergency. And, should you need to brake heavily, the Emergency Brake Warning repeatedly flashes the rear brake lights to alert other drivers.
Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control (IVDC) with Continuous Controlled Damping (CCD)
IVDC delivers notable improvements to handling, stability and braking performance. Each damper is adjusted five times per second to guarantee the best possible occupant comfort and road contact. You can also switch between suspension modes – sport, normal and comfort – as the mood takes you. (Option)

CCD works with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) to reduce stopping distances on rough surfaces when ABS braking is applied.
Subframe mounted suspension
The improved suspension system in the Mondeo reduces steering friction and advances handling control. The front and rear suspension systems are subframe mounted for optimal performance, superior steering and a thoroughly comfortable ride. The systems achieve high lateral and camber stiffness and, at the same time, fine-tune longitudinal compliance to absorb bumps.
Steering and handling
The rack-and-pinion steering system with hydraulic power assistance provides the best possible steering feedback.

To produce enhanced stability, special attention has been given to the tuning of the suspension and steering systems. A wider track (front track 1,589 mm; rear 1,605 mm) and bush attachment base combine to provide resistance to roll movements.
19” alloy wheels with performance suspension
A superb choice of alloy wheels can further enhance the Mondeo's dynamic, stylish impression. Top-of-the-range design, 19" Y-spoke alloy wheels are a stunning optional addition to the Titanium or Titanium X Series. (Dealer fit accessory. Standard on the Titanium X Sport).
