Ford Kuga control panel and steering wheel
Technical highlights
Technical highlights
The Kuga is bristling with technology and features that have been designed to make travelling in its spacious, comfortable interior a genuinely rewarding experience.

Because this is an overview of the Ford Kuga, some features mentioned below may be standard across the range whilst others may be optional extras or available only on selected models. Please refer to the full Features and specifications for specific details or contact your Ford Dealer. You can also use our configurator tool to build your perfect Ford Kuga.

Ford Easy Fuel
The fuel flap and filler have been designed with a misfuel inhibitor, which cleverly distinguishes the difference between a diesel and petrol pump nozzle, ensuring you always use the correct fuel. When you consider that around 150,000 people a year in the UK fill up with the wrong fuel, you can see that it’s easily done.
Bi-Xenon headlights
These highly efficient headlights deliver twice the intensity and project a far longer light beam than conventional halogen headlights, but use only two thirds of the energy – a bright idea in every respect.
Deflation Detection System
We believe that potential problems should be tackled before they become real problems. That’s why Tyre Deflation Detection System technology is available across the Kuga range, with sensors that constantly monitor speed and driving conditions on the move. A warning light in the instrument panel alerts the driver to any potential problem.

Rain-sensing wipers
Rain-sensing wipers offer six levels of speed. They spring into action automatically at the first drop of rain and increase in speed to deal with whatever the weather can come up with. Aside from the added convenience, it’s one less thing to have to think about.
FordPower Starter Button
Starting the Kuga is simple. So long as you have your key in your car with you, security-encrypted sensors automatically ready the engine when they detect your unique key code. Simply engage the clutch and push the FordPower Starter Button to start your car. Being security-encrypted, means no one else can drive off in your vehicle – even in the unlikely event that they manage to get through the alarm and locks.
FordKeyFree-System
We have made every aspect of driving the Kuga as simple and as straightforward as possible. Even getting into your car is effortless. With the optional FordKeyFree-System, sensors detect your uniquely-coded key fob as you walk towards your car, so the doors and tailgate unlock when you pull any handle.
Navigation
Two navigation systems are available with the Kuga: an Advanced navigation system with optional 5'' colour screen and a Premium system with an optional 7'' colour touch-screen.

The Advanced system features a 5'' full-colour display with map and turn-by-turn instructions to your destination. The system has the ability to play MP3 files directly from your memory card for enhanced sound quality. Also included are an external AUX jack, SD memory card slot for data exchange and map data, remote audio controls and six speakers.

Choose the Premium option and you will have a 7'' full-colour touch-screen display and easy-to-follow visual with spoken instructions. The system also includes a CD/MP3 audio system, climate control, remote audio controls, an external AUX jack and eight premium speakers. An additional feature is a rear view camera, which makes parking easier by displaying the grid view from the rear of the vehicle on your touch-screen.

Both systems give local traffic updates and full postcode entry to help find your best route.
Sony DAB audio system
Standard on the Kuga, you get a DAB digital radio, with its wide choice of radio stations. There’s also MP3 playback capability, external AUX jack and an optional USB port for plugging in your MP3 player. If you like, you can upgrade to a high-performance Sony audio system with a 6-disc in-dash CD autochanger.
Bluetooth logo
Bluetooth®* with Voice Control
Using Bluetooth®* with Voice Control technology, you can safely make and receive calls from your mobile phone, change the radio station or CD track, control the DVD navigation system, and adjust the temperature or fan settings – just by using voice commands. A USB/audio socket means you can plug in and play your own personal MP3 device, or USB stick. Learn more about Ford mobile connectivity
MP3 and USB connector
An audio input connection is available as standard across the range for you to plug in your MP3 player. You can then listen to your favourite tracks through the car audio system.

Go for the USB connection, available with Bluetooth®* with Voice Control, to plug in your USB device, and see your favourite tracks appear on the car’s dashboard display. To control the music, just operate the remote audio controls, or issue voice commands using Bluetooth®* with Voice Control technology.
Solar reflect windscreen
This windscreen has been specially designed so that it blocks more of the sun’s heat than standard glass. This means the interior cools more efficiently on sunny days, which provides a more comfortable driving environment for you.
Power converter
No matter how far afield your journey takes you, the Kuga will keep you in touch with your business or friends. The centre console comes equipped with a power converter, so you can plug in your laptop, or any communication or entertainment device that has a three pin plug.

Kuga
Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
Tested in the harsh condition of a Swedish winter, the Kuga’s intelligent All-Wheel Drive system uses proven Haldex 3 technology to react instantly to a change in road conditions.  Traction is maintained by automatically applying power to the wheels that need it most, ensuring you stay in control whatever the road throws at you.
Kuga
Traction Control System (TCS)
Our advanced traction control system is there to ensure maximum contact between each individual tyre and the road when accelerating or decelerating. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the power to individual wheels ensuring maximum grip is achieved with minimum effort on your part.
Kuga
Electric Hydraulic Power-Assisted Steering (EHPAS)
EHPAS helps the Kuga deliver responsive handling. This speed-sensitive system ensures that the steering becomes lighter at lower speeds for easier manoeuvrability. At higher speeds, there is less power assistance, so you can better ‘feel’ the road, particularly when you are negotiating a twisting road.
5-star Euro NCAP rating
5-star Euro NCAP rating
The Kuga has the ability to tackle any terrain or conditions. More importantly, it has the technology and features to do so more safely than any other vehicle in its class.

Euro NCAP put the Kuga through exhaustive testing before awarding it a class-leading combination of five stars out of five for occupant safety, with the Kuga achieving a 100% result in the Euro NCAP Side Impact Test. Plaudits were also given by the Euro NCAP panel for the Kuga’s rigid passenger cell. Meanwhile, Euro NCAP awarded the Kuga an impressive four stars out of four for child safety. Pedestrian safety scored highly too, with the Kuga scoring three stars.
Kuga
Intelligent Protection System (IPS)
IPS in the Kuga features a comprehensive array of innovative technology that helps enhance driver and passenger protection. A series of sensors are built-in to deploy the appropriate safety systems, such as all-round airbags, in milliseconds.

Active safety features
The Kuga has an advanced braking system to provide total reassurance, whatever conditions you may face. The Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) constantly monitors feedback from each wheel and applies a braking pulse should there be any momentary loss of grip. Meanwhile, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) guarantees that extra braking pressure is instantly available in case of emergencies. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) are also fitted as standard, and these combine to ensure that your braking is more controlled, no matter what’s around the next corner.

Passive safety features
The Kuga has a rigid safety cage that is built to reduce the effects of impact in case of collision. There are also full-size front and side airbags for the front passenger and driver, plus side curtain airbags both in the front and rear of the vehicle. And to minimise injury to drivers, we have designed our Pedal Intrusion Prevention System (PIPS) and a load-limiting steering column so it collapses away on impact.

Traction Control System (TCS)
Our advanced traction control system is there to ensure maximum contact between each individual tyre and the road when accelerating or decelerating. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the power to individual wheels ensuring maximum grip is achieved with minimum effort on your part.
ISOFIX child seat attachments
The safety, comfort and protection of your children is paramount. ISOFIX mounting brackets for child seat attachments can be fitted free on the two outer rear seats of the Kuga, but you’ll need to specify them when ordering your vehicle.
Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS)
When you find a car that you love to drive, you want to know it will remain safe and secure when you have to leave it parked anywhere. That’s why we have incorporated so many security features. The first line of defence is the perimeter alarm. Then there are the locks: all high-security, anti-burst and shielded with strengthened mountings. And even if thieves do manage to break in, our patented Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) immobiliser means they won't be going anywhere without a key fob with the right security code.
Thatcham Category 1 alarm
With the highest rating awarded by the UK’s Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, S-MAX’s Thatcham Category 1 combined car alarm and immobiliser not only makes your vehicle more secure. It also helps lower your insurance premiums. This alarm is triggered if an intruder tries to open the windows, bonnet, or boot. It also protects the audio system, and uses volume sensing to monitor movements inside the vehicle.
Kuga
Class-leading CO2 emissions in the all-wheel drive (AWD) crossover category
The Kuga’s intelligent AWD system helps return remarkable fuel economy figures of 44.1mpg. Not to mention the class-leading CO2 emission figure of 169 g/km in its AWD crossover category and an outstanding 159g/km from the 2WD version.
