Schematic overview of Ford Kuga safety features
5-star safety levels both on and off-road
The Ford Kuga is designed to tackle the most hostile terrain and conditions, which means it’s vital that the vehicle achieves the highest possible levels of safety. In fact, the Kuga sets new standards for safety in all-wheel-drive cars. Euro NCAP put the vehicle through exhaustive testing before awarding it a class-leading combination of five stars for occupant safety, four stars for child safety and three stars for pedestrian protection.

Find out more about the comprehensive range of safety features that earned the Kuga its 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
Coordinated safety systems activate in a split second
The Kuga is equipped with an advanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS), which coordinates a number of safety systems to protect you and your passengers. As well as a rigid, ultra-strong bodyshell, there’s also an array of airbags. To help reduce the chance of injury in the event of an accident, the steering column will collapse away from the driver.
Rigid, impact-absorbing passenger cabin
For the best possible protection, an ultra-strong bodyshell with lightweight impact-absorbing technology surrounds the Kuga’s steel safety cage. The cage itself incorporates side impact door beams and engine compartment cross beams for extra rigidity.
Airbags to shield you from all angles
You’ll feel a lot safer knowing there’s an array of airbags protecting you in the Kuga. As well as the full-size front and side airbags for the front passenger and driver, there are side curtain airbags in both the front and rear of the vehicle.
Stay in control whatever the conditions
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) constantly monitors your vehicle’s progress. It senses any deviations from your chosen driving line, such as if you start to skid and automatically corrects your road position. The system is always active but you now have the option to switch to the new ‘Reduced assistance’ mode. This helps in slippery traction situations, such as deep snow. ESP also incorporates Traction Control (see below).
Maximum grip with minimum effort
Our advanced Traction Control System (TCS) eliminates excessive wheel spin and gives you the best possible grip, performance and stability when you need it most. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the power to the Kuga’s individual wheels, ensuring maximum contact and grip when you’re accelerating or decelerating.
Advanced systems for more controlled braking
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) combine to ensure that your braking is more controlled. Both are fitted as standard on the Kuga.
Extra power for emergency braking
Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) helps the Kuga achieve maximum braking effectiveness in an emergency situation. The system senses how much pressure you’ve applied to the brake yourself and if necessary, automatically increases it.
ISOFIX child seat attachments
The safety, comfort and protection of your children is paramount. That’s why you’ll find ISOFIX child seat attachments available as standard on the outer rear seats of the Kuga. They include top tether anchorage, which significantly reduces the chance of head injury in an accident.
Ultra-bright, low-energy headlights
Helping you see and be seen, optional bi-xenon headlights deliver twice as much light as standard halogen bulbs, while using less energy. To help you stand out more on the road, LED day running lights are fitted with the bi-xenon headlights while ultra-bright LED rear lights also improve visibility.
An early warning if a tyre is going flat
If any of your tyres starts to lose pressure during your journey, the optional Deflation Detection System warns you immediately by lighting up an icon on the instrument panel. That way, you’ve the chance to stop safely and fix the problem.
For additional peace of mind, the Kuga has a comprehensive package of security features, both standard and optional.
  • Perimeter alarm
  • Remote central double-locking
  • High-security, anti-burst locks, shielded with strengthened mountings to prevent tampering
  • Our patented Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) immobiliser, which disables the engine until your uniquely-coded key is put into the ignition.
