Alloy wheels

Once inside the Galaxy, you will find a host of technological features to ensure your journey is safer, more comfortable, relaxed and entertaining. The more boisterous members of your family will delight in the entertainment system, watching movies, playing games or listening to music, while you can use satellite navigation to find your way easily, just by using voice commands.

Because this is an overview of the Ford Galaxy, some features mentioned below may be standard across the range whilst others may be optional extras or available only on selected models. Rain-sensing wipers

With six levels of sensitivity, autowipers on the Galaxy spring into action at the first drop of rain, increasing in speed to deal with whatever the weather may throw at you. Aside from the added convenience, it’s one less thing to think about.

Auto-headlights

The lighting technology in the Galaxy has been designed to make night-time driving easier, safer and more comfortable. The headlights automatically turn on when the sensors detect a reduction in light conditions, which means you won’t need to turn them on at dusk, at night, or when you are going through a tunnel.

Halogen Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS)

With AFS, cornering lights swivel to the left or right by up to 15˚ according to your speed and the angle of the steering wheel. So, as you turn the wheel, the dipped lights swivel to illuminate the road as you take the corner. This boosts forward visibility through bends and creates a safer driving environment. Integrated cornering lights are activated when you turn the steering wheel 30°. These give even more light on sharper bends, to help you avoid any potential problems around the next corner.

MultiMedia DVD system

With the Galaxy’s MultiMedia DVD system, you can keep even the most demanding of passengers entertained. It comes complete with two independent head restraint displays, wireless headphones and a remote control. All you need are your favourite DVDs, games console, or your personal MP3 player, which you simply plug in. You won’t believe how quickly calm can descend in the back.

Bluetooth®* with Voice Control

Now you can choose to safely make hands-free calls on the move from your mobile by using Voice Control technology. This lets you control a Bluetooth®* compatible mobile, as well as the car’s audio, DVD navigation and climate control systems. Learn more about Ford mobile connectivity

Portable Music Player Connectivity Socket

With the new Galaxy, an AUX jack is available, so you can plug in your MP3 player and operate it yourself.

Electric Hydraulic Power-Assisted Steering (EHPAS)

EHPAS fitted on the 2.0-litre diesel, means that it has more responsive handling than ever. This speed-sensitive system ensures that the steering becomes lighter at lower speeds for easier manoeuvrability. At higher speeds there is less power assistance, so you can better ‘feel’ the road particularly when you are driving along winding roads.

Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Alert

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Forward Alert (FA)

With ACC you can automatically keep your chosen distance from the car in front. Should it slow down and reduce the gap, your speed drops too. And when traffic speeds up, you automatically return to cruising speed. Meanwhile, FA monitors your distance to the vehicle in front.

If you drive too close, a warning noise and flashing light activate.

Run flat tyres with Tyre Pressure Monitoring

In the unfortunate event that you experience a puncture, run flat technology allows you to drive on safely until you find the nearest garage to repair your tyres. Run flat tyres also include Tyre Pressure Monitoring.

Mobile Navigation

Turn your Bluetooth^®-enabled mobile smart phone (mobile phone not included) into a navigation unit. Simply insert the navigation chip, enter your journey details and the phone will transmit route data to the car’s audio system (available in combination with Sony DAB Audio systems).

Intelligent Protection System (IPS)

Euro NCAP awarded the Galaxy a 5-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection in its tests, evidence of how seriously we take the safety of you and your family.

Safety and security are assured due to a comprehensive package of passive and active safety measures designed to work together and, if necessary, ready to activate in an instant. Called the Intelligent Protection System (IPS), this package consists of:

A rigid steel safety cage that works with side impact door beams to minimise the impact of a collision
Airbags for overall protection, including driver’s and front passenger’s front and side impact airbags, together with front second and third row, side-curtain airbags deployed from the headlining, plus driver’s knee airbag
3-point seat belts with pre-tensioners and retractors on front seats
Height-adjustable mounts on front seat belts
Seat belt reminder system
An advanced collapsible steering column and retracting pedals that collapse away from the driver to reduce injury in case of impact – Pedal Intrusion Prevention System (PIPS)
An Advanced Neck Injury Protection System to help the front passenger avoid whiplash
Passenger airbag deactivation switch – Dealer fitted
ISOFIX child seat attachments on the outer two seats of the second row

Note: A child seat should never be placed in the front passenger seat when the Ford vehicle is equipped with an operational front passenger’s airbag. The safest place for children is properly restrained on the second row seats.

Active Safety Features

The Galaxy’s active safety features help provide the safest possible environment for you and your passengers. These include:

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) to help prevent skidding with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) for more stable braking.

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Traction Assist (TA) monitors the rotation of the wheels, as well as the steering wheel angle, yaw angle and sideways movement. If the sensors detect either the front or rear tyres slipping, the onboard computer modifies the engine power and applies the brakes to individual wheels. This keeps them under control and helps keep the vehicle stable. Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) is there to ensure full braking force is available whenever necessary, helping reduce stopping distances in an emergency. To alert other drivers if you do have to brake heavily, the hazard warning lights automatically come on.

Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control (IVDC) with Continuous Controlled Damping (CCD) gives smooth and responsive handling and guarantees stability and efficient braking. Each damper is adjusted five times per second for a smoother, more comfortable ride. You can also select different suspension settings from a range of ‘sport’, ‘normal’ and ‘comfort’ modes to suit your driving style.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring with individual wheel sensors check the tyre pressure, provides accurate pressure data and alerts you before any loss of pressure becomes an issue.

Hill Start Assist (HSA) prevents you from rolling backwards when making a hill start. After releasing the brake pedal when stationary, HSA keeps the wheels braked, leaving you enough time to move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator without the car moving.

With the latest innovations in driving technology, the Galaxy drives just like a saloon car. Smooth and responsive handling, guaranteed stability and efficient braking, that’s what IVDC with CCD give you. Each damper is adjusted five times per second for a smoother, more comfortable ride. You can also select different suspension settings from a range of sport, normal and comfort modes to suit your individual driving style.

Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS)

When you fall for something as attractive as the Galaxy, you want to know that it will remain safe and secure when you have to leave it anywhere. That’s why we have incorporated so many security features. The locks are all high-security, anti-burst and shielded with strengthened mountings. And for extra measure, there’s our patented Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) immobiliser, which disables the engine until your uniquely-coded key is put into the ignition, or is recognised by the sensors.

Thatcham Category 1 alarm

With the highest rating awarded by the UK’s Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, the Galaxy’s Thatcham Category 1 combined car alarm and immobiliser not only makes your vehicle more secure. It also helps lower your insurance premiums. This alarm is triggered if an intruder tries to open the windows, bonnet, or boot. It also protects the audio system, and uses volume sensing to monitor movements inside the vehicle.

The Galaxy’s double locking key facility means you can remotely close all the electric windows, as well as deadlocking all the doors. So if an intruder gains entry by breaking the windows, they will be unable to unlock the doors from inside. You can activate double locking simply by pressing the ‘lock’ button on the key fob twice. You can also open all the windows in your Galaxy by pressing and holding the ‘unlock’ button. To close them, simply press and hold the ‘lock’ button again.
