Focus in Vision

We have equipped the Focus with an enviable range of both active and passive safety features to give you greater reassurance, wherever you are sitting. On the subject of reassurance, you will also find many security measures designed to keep your car out of the hands of others.

Because this is an overview of the Ford Focus, some features mentioned below may be standard across the range whilst others may be optional extras or available only on selected models. Active safety features

Focus has an advanced braking system to provide total reassurance, whatever the conditions. Fitted as standard, the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Traction Assist (TA) helps combat problems that may occur during sudden manoeuvres, helping you to maintain full control of the vehicle. It reacts automatically if needed, by reducing power or applying a braking force to any wheel that is losing grip.

Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) is also there to ensure full braking force is available whenever necessary, helping reduce stopping distances in an emergency.

Meanwhile, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) are also fitted as standard, and these combine to ensure that your braking is more controlled.

Rain-sensing wipers

Rain-sensing wipers offer six levels of sensitivity, springing into action automatically at the first drop of rain and increasing in speed to deal with whatever the weather can come up with. Aside from the added convenience, it’s one less thing to have to think about.

Park Assist

There are rear sensors that make parking and manoeuvring both safer and easier. An audible warning helps you judge the distance between your car and any obstacle behind you, so you have complete confidence and peace of mind, particularly in tight spaces.

Tyre Deflation Detection System

We believe that potential problems should be tackled before they become real issues. Tyre Deflation Detection system has sensors that constantly monitor each tyre, and provide an alert on the instrument panel if there’s a loss of pressure due to change in wheel diameter.

Airbags

Full-size airbags for the driver and front passenger, plus side airbags and side curtain airbags are available on Focus, delivering protection, no matter where the impact.

Intelligent Protection System (IPS)

The Ford Focus features IPS that uses innovative sensors to activate the appropriate safety systems, such as all-round airbags, in a split-second. Whether one or five people are travelling IPS means your journey will now be safer than ever before.

Pedal Intrusion Prevention system (PIP)

In the event of an accident, the pedals retract to reduce potential injury to the driver’s feet and ankles.

Advanced steering column

The steering column absorbs the impact of any collision, and collapses away from the driver into the dashboard which can substantially reduce the likelihood of injuries.

Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS)

You want to know that your Focus will remain safe and secure. We have incorporated many security features, including the Thatcham Category 1 approved alarm system and remote central double locking.

All the locks are high-security, anti-burst and are shielded with strengthened mountings. For extra peace of mind, there’s our patented Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) immobiliser. PATS disables the engine if your key isn’t in the ignition or if the sensors haven’t recognised its unique security code – if you are carrying it in your pocket or bag.

FordKeyFree-System

This is a convenient device that stops you having to search around for your keys. Simply walk up to the door or boot and pull the handle. Even if your key is in your pocket or bag, the system will detect its presence and unlock the vehicle and de-activate the alarm. You can, of course, use the remote control buttons to open or lock the car if you’d prefer. Additionally, you can have the FordKeyFree-System programmed to unlock all of the vehicle doors at once, or just one.
