Technology that protects you
The new Focus is equipped with intuitive technology to keep you safe and secure on every trip. Along with safety credentials that are second to none, there's a driving experience that's simply addictive.
Intelligent Protection System
For you and your passengers, the all-new Focus has an enhanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS). With hi-tensile steels in the body that create a rigid structure to absorb energy efficiently, the overall design approach ensures all the systems work together effectively.

If called upon, the array of airbags are designed to comprehensively shield the driver and passengers. The car uses innovative sensors to activate the appropriate safety systems, such as all-round airbags, in a split-second. Plus, there's an advanced steering column and retracting pedals that all collapse away from the driver to reduce injury in case of impact. Whether one or five people are travelling, IPS makes you feel safer in the knowledge of the technology that's there to protect you.
Low Speed Safety System
This system is designed to assist you in slow moving traffic and at speeds under 20 mph. If its sensors detect the car in front has unexpectedly stopped, the car applies the brakes automatically. Instant reaction time, the instant you need it.
Lane Departure Warning
Lane Departure Warning alerts you before you drift out of lane by vibrating your steering wheel. The level of vibration can be adjusted to three levels of sensitivity and a visual alert pops up on your driver information cluster. A welcome and timely prompt to correct your lane drift.
Lane Keeping Aid
If you're slow to react or don’t respond to the Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Aid will apply gentle steering input to help make sure you stay in the correct lane. It's good to know the new Focus is looking out for you.
Driver Alert
Driver Alert is designed to constantly monitor your driving behaviour and detect any deviation caused by driver fatigue. A warning icon then appears in the display suggesting you take a break. Exactly the kind of reminder you need, especially if you're driving alone.
Blind Spot Information System
Using radar sensors, the Blind Spot Information System is designed to see things that you might not – vehicles hidden in your blind spots. If the sensor detects a car in your blind spot, it alerts you with an orange light in your door mirror to let you know something is coming. Door mirrors have never been so sophisticated and safety-conscious.
Auto-dimming rear-view mirror
When driving at night, you could do without being blinded by the lights of the vehicles behind. The innovative auto-dimming rear-view mirror automatically detects headlight glare and switches to a dimmed setting. This helps makes keeping an eye on vehicles behind less distracting and helps you arrive home feeling less tired.
Seat belt reminder system
To keep your precious rear passengers in check and safe while on the move, there is a seat belt reminder system. This provides both an audible and visual alert if any of the occupied seats do not have their seat belt fastened.
Key-Free System
Reacting to sensors around the car, this clever piece of technology lets you lock and unlock your car, without taking your key out of your pocket or bag. Very handy when your hands are full of shopping bags.
 Euro NCAP
Ford makes history with 2 Euro NCAP Advanced Safety Rewards
Ford has become the first non premium carmaker to win not one but two Euro NCAP Advanced Rewards for the all-new Ford Focus.

This unique recognition marks Ford’s innovative safety technologies Active City Stop and Lane Keeping Aid. The new Focus also earned Euro NCAP’s maximum 5-star crash safety rating with an exceptional rating in the adult, child and pedestrian safety categories.

Dr Andre Seeck, President of Euro NCAP, said “The Euro NCAP Advanced Awards recognise safety innovation of the highest level and we are delighted that Ford has shown its commitment to the safety of its vehicles such as the new Focus.”

Few cars earn Euro NCAP Advanced Rewards, so to receive two from this respected and independent organisation for technology that benefits our drivers is a particularly rewarding achievement.
Traffic Sign Recognition
You can now avoid the frustration of missing a traffic or speed sign again in the new Focus. Traffic Sign Recognition technology identifies different traffic signs and can display two different signs on the instrument panel. For instance, it can show the speed limit and no overtaking in the control cluster. It will even flash when you are over the speed limit. A useful prompt to mind how you drive.
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)
The ESP is at the heart of many of the active safety features. It monitors the vehicle’s progress and is always ready to apply effective intervention when required. While the system cannot be switched off, a new reduced assistance mode helps you in slippery traction situations, such as deep snow. ESP also incorporates Traction Control to eliminate excessive wheel spin and guarantee optimal traction, performance and stability. In addition, the latest generation of ESP maximises braking effectiveness in adverse conditions.
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD)
ABS and EBD are fitted as standard and combine to ensure that your braking is more controlled. Continuing the more connected-to-the-road feeling throughout the driving experience, the new Focus has stiffer front brake callipers and uses higher friction materials to improve pedal feel and response.
Deflation Detection System
Should one or more of your tyres lose pressure during your journey, the Deflation Detection System will warn you immediately by illuminating an icon on the instrument panel. This is designed to give you the chance to stop safely and fix the problem.
Auto High Beam
This clever night driving-aid, which works with automatic headlights switched on, temporarily dips your headlights when it detects oncoming traffic or another vehicle up ahead. Then it automatically returns them to high beam. A bright idea that makes driving more safe and relaxed.
Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Alert
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is an advanced speed control system that monitors the road ahead using a radar sensor for an even more relaxed drive. Like cruise control, ACC allows you to select and maintain the speed you wish to drive.

However, if the system detects a vehicle ahead of you, it will slow your car to ensure a pre-set distance between your cars. Once the road in front of you is clear again, it will revert to your chosen speed which can be set from 15mph to 70mph*. It also features Forward Alert, a monitoring system which warns you if you get too close to the vehicle in front of you.

* Where legally permitted. Please note that ACC will not prevent collisions with stationary objects
Speed Limiter
This new system integrates with cruise control to keep you within your pre-determined speed limit. Setting your top speed is easy with the steering wheel-mounted control at your fingertips, so you can relax about inadvertently going too fast and keep your eyes on the road, not the speedometer. When you need to call on the lively performance of the new Focus, it responds with just a press of the accelerator, which overrides the system.
Rain sensing wipers
With six levels of sensitivity, the windscreen wipers on the new Focus spring into action at the first drop of rain, increasing in speed to deal with whatever the weather may throw at you.
Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
EBA helps the new Focus achieve the best possible braking during an emergency situation. If the system senses the driver has applied insufficient pressure, it will increase the brake pressure.
