The only car to win four Euro NCAP safety awards
The Ford Focus is the first car to win four Advanced Safety Rewards from Euro NCAP, the independent safety body. These awards are specifically for new safety technologies. The winning features are Driver Alert, Forward Alert (incorporated in Adaptive Cruise Control), Active City Stop and Lane Keeping Aid.

The Focus was also recognised as ‘Best in Class’ in the ‘Small Family Car’ category, after achieving a 5-star crash rating and scoring highly in four key safety areas: adult occupant, child occupant, pedestrian and safety assistance.

Now find out about the range of features that make the Focus itself safer and can also help you drive more safely.
Coordinated safety systems activate in a split-second
The Focus is equipped with an advanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS), which coordinates a number of safety systems to protect both you and your passengers.

As well as a rigid, impact-absorbing bodyshell, containing advanced high-tensile steels, there’s an array of airbags to shield the car’s occupants from every angle. To reduce the chance of injury in the event of an accident, the steering column and pedals are designed to collapse away from the driver, to reduce the chance of injury in the event of an accident.
Stay in control whatever the conditions
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) constantly monitors your vehicle’s progress. It senses any deviations from your chosen driving line, such as if you start to skid, and automatically corrects your road position, helping you keep control of the car.

The system is always active, but you now have the option to switch to the ‘Reduced assistance’ mode, which helps in slippery traction situations, like deep snow. ESP also incorporates Traction Control, to eliminate excessive wheel spin and give you the best possible grip, performance and stability, just when you need it most.

Finally, with stiffer front callipers and front and rear friction materials, the latest generation of ESP gives you better response from the brake pedal and maximises braking effectiveness in difficult conditions.
Advanced systems for more controlled braking
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) combine to ensure that your braking is more controlled. The brake assembly has also been improved to give a swifter response.

Extra power for emergency braking
Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) helps the all-new Focus achieve maximum braking effectiveness in an emergency situation. The system senses how much pressure you’ve applied to the brake yourself and if necessary, automatically increases it.

To avoid low speed collisions, the Focus brakes for you
The innovative Active City Stop helps you avoid a collision in slow-moving traffic or at speeds under 20 mph. If the system detects the car in front has unexpectedly stopped, it automatically applies the brakes. Active City Stop recently won a Euro NCAP Advanced Reward for safety.

Ultra-bright, low-energy headlights
Helping you see and be seen, optional bi-xenon headlights deliver twice as much light as standard halogen bulbs, while using less energy.

Auto High Beam. Helping you see, without blinding others.
A useful night-driving aid, Auto High Beam temporarily dips your headlights when it detects oncoming traffic or a vehicle ahead, stopping you dazzling other drivers. Then it automatically reverts back to high beam, giving you maximum visibility.

A rear-view mirror that stops you being dazzled
You’ll drive more safely at night if the lights of the vehicles behind aren’t constantly dazzling you. The innovative auto-dimming rear-view mirror automatically detects headlight glare and switches to a dimmed setting.

Seat belt reminder system for added safety
This feature helps keep your rear passengers safe and secure, while you’re on the move. If any of the seats in use don’t have their belts fastened, it gives you an audible and visual warning.

An early warning if a tyre is going flat
Should any of your tyres starts to lose pressure during your journey, the Deflation Detection System warns you immediately by lighting up an icon on the instrument panel. That gives you the chance to stop safely and fix the problem.

Two advanced systems to help you stay in lane
If you begin to drift out of lane, Lane Departure Warning alerts you by vibrating your steering wheel and showing a visual warning on your driver information display (you can set the vibration to one of three levels of sensitivity).

Then, if you're slow to react or don’t respond, Lane Keeping Aid will help guide you safely back into the correct lane. Lane Keeping Aid has won a Euro NCAP Advanced Reward for its proven safety benefit.
Driver Alert tells you when you’re getting tired
Driver Alert constantly monitors your driving behaviour and is designed to detect any changes caused by fatigue. If you’re getting tired, a warning icon appears in the display, suggesting you take a break. This technology also won a prestigious Euro NCAP Advanced Reward.

Extra control during hill starts
Hill Start Assist stops you rolling backwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2.5 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces.

Technology that alerts you to cars you can’t see
The Blind Spot Information System uses radar sensors to see vehicles that may be hidden in your blind spot. They’re situated on either side of your car and alert you with an orange light, clearly displayed in the side door mirror.

Set your own speed limit and the Focus stays within it
Integrated with the cruise control function, the Speed Limiter lets you set your top speed, simply by using a control on the steering wheel. Then the car stays within it, so you can keep your eyes on the road, not the speedometer. When you need to go faster, just press the accelerator to override the system.
