With the introduction of a range of recent technologies, including the Ford Auto-Start-Stop system, the Focus ECOnetic 1.6 TDCi 109PS delivers an impressive fuel economy of just 74.2 mpg (combined cycle) and CO2 emissions of only 99 g/km. As a result of its incredible performance, the Focus ECOnetic ranks as one of the most fuel efficient cars in its class.

There’s also an alternative choice between a 90PS or 109PS model. These are available in either a 5-door or estate and both versions still produce low CO2 emissions of just 104 g/km, as well as a very healthy return of 70.6 mpg.

Economy without compromise

Although the Focus ECOnetic has undergone a range of efficiency refinements, these haven’t compromised the remarkable driving experience the Focus is famous for. This would explain why Fifth Gear awarded the Focus ECOnetic their highest rating of five stars and said, “[it] is, surprisingly, one of the most satisfying drives in its class. We don't often give five stars, but when you take into account the strengths of the standard Focus (spacious, practical, refined and great to drive) and then add in superb fuel economy, we can't see how it could score any less.”

What are the differences?

To achieve its outstanding fuel economy and low CO2 emissions, the Focus ECOnetic has been enhanced in a number of ways, including low friction oil. These are just some of the intelligent technologies and modifications that make the Focus ECOnetic much more efficient than most other cars in its class:

Ford Auto-Start-Stop Technology
Automatically shuts down the engine when the vehicle is idle and re-starts when the driver moves off resulting in a 5% improvement in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Smart Regenerative Charging
When the vehicle brakes or decelerates, kinetic energy is converted into electric energy so less fuel is used.
Ford Eco Mode
This clever feature, exclusive to the Ford Focus ECOnetic, monitors driving behaviour and offers information on how to improve fuel economy.
Low Tension FEAD (Front End Accessory Drive)
By reducing the drive belt tension, friction is reduced resulting in improved fuel efficiency.
Low rolling resistance tyres
Reduces the energy required to maintain progress along the road.
Modified engine calibration
The 1.6 litre TDCi 90 PS and 109 PS diesel engines have been modified for optimum fuel economy.
Tyre inflation kit
This is in lieu of a spare wheel, which lessens the overall weight of the car, resulting in lower emissions.
Low friction oil
Releases more of the engine’s power to drive the car forwards.
Lowered sports suspension
Lowers the height of the car to improve aerodynamic efficiency.
Powertrain undershield
Guides the air more effectively under the car so less power is used.
Optimised Gears
The light on the green shift indicator will let you know the ideal time to change gear, reducing the use of fuel by avoiding unnecessarily high engine speed.
