5-star safety levels

For a small car, the Ford Fiesta offers outstanding levels of safety. In fact, it’s been awarded a 5 star Euro NCAP rating for adult occupant safety, a further 4 stars for child protection and 3 stars (out of a maximum 4) for pedestrian protection.

Find out how the Fiesta earned its safety rating, and why its security levels are equally high.

A tougher body for maximum protection
To keep you and your passengers as safe as possible in an accident, the Fiesta’s body is now tougher than ever. It’s built from ultra high-strength steels and specially shaped body panels, with front and rear crumple zones designed to absorb the energy of an impact.

Coordinated safety systems activate in a split-second
The Fiesta is equipped with an advanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS), which coordinates a series of safety systems to offer maximum protection for you and your passengers.

As well as the rigid, impact-absorbing bodyshell, you’re also protected by advanced seat and seat belt technology to reduce the chance of injury in the event of an accident.

Airbags to shield you from all angles
You’ll feel a lot safer knowing there’s an array of airbags protecting you in the Fiesta. As well as the driver and passenger front airbags, there are either side airbags with head and thorax protection, or inflatable curtain airbags with thorax side airbags. There’s even an airbag that protects the drivers’ knees.

Advanced technology for safer seats and belts
All Fiesta seats are fitted with three-point seat belts. There’s also a ramp that helps stop you ‘submarining’ (that’s sliding down and out from underneath your belt, if there’s an impact from the front). The front seats are also specially designed to help prevent whiplash and are fitted with the BeltMinder™ seat belt reminder system, to remind you to buckle up.

Safer seats for smaller travellers
For kids on the move, we offer a specially designed Recaro child seat. Available as an accessory, it can be secured with an ISOFIX system on the rear outer seats. A similar version for children up to 18 months old is also available.

Whatever the conditions, ESP helps you stay in control
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) constantly monitors your vehicle’s progress. It senses any deviations from your chosen driving line (for example, if you start to skid) and automatically corrects your road position, helping you keep control of the car. This technology also helps reduce stopping distances in an emergency.

Advanced systems for more controlled braking
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) combine to ensure that your braking is more controlled. They help prevent skidding if you have to brake when cornering, or if you’re making an emergency stop. Both are fitted as standard on all Fiesta models.

EBA adds power to your emergency braking
Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) helps the Fiesta achieve maximum braking effectiveness in an emergency situation. The system works by sensing how much pressure you’ve applied to the brake yourself and if necessary, automatically increasing it.

Brighter headlights for safer night driving

Halogen Projector Headlights produce brighter, more intense and more penetrating light. So you can see (and be seen) better and ultimately drive more safely. They’re fitted as standard on Zetec, Zetec S and Titanium and are available as an option on other models.

The Fiesta has a comprehensive package of security features, both standard and optional. Wherever you park your car, you can be more confident it’ll still be there when you return.
  • Optional perimeter alarm
  • High-security, anti-burst locks, shielded with strengthened mountings to prevent tampering
  • Our patented Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) immobiliser, which disables the engine until your uniquely-coded key is put into the ignition.
