With Ford Protect Classic 4th and 5th Year mechanical breakdown insurance you can extend the warranty on your Ford car past the initial three-year period. This mechanical breakdown insurance can be purchased at any time up to 12 months and less than 20,000 miles from the date of first registration.

You may wish to extend your car’s protection past the 3-year/60,000 miles warranty made up of the manufacturer’s one year, and Ford Protect’s additional two years. That’s why we designed our mechanical breakdown insurance, Ford Protect 4th/5th Year Classic Plans. These plans are available for up to 4 years/80,000 miles or 5 years/100,000 miles from the first date of vehicle registration.
 
You’re even covered for any authorised repairs needed in other EU countries and for the cost of car hire, if necessary. Subject to terms, conditions and policy listed exclusions.
 
This mechanical breakdown insurance can be purchased at any time up to 12 months and less than 20,000 miles from the date of first registration.

All mechanical and electrical component cover
With our 4th/5th Year Classic Plan, you’ll be covered in the event of a mechanical or electrical component failure (inclusive of parts and labour costs) for the full period of the Policy (subject to the terms, conditions and listed exclusions).
 
Please note the maximum amount payable under the Policy during the Period of Insurance shall be up to the purchase price of the vehicle as stated in the Policy Schedule.

Features and Benefits:
For a one-off payment, our Ford Protect 4th and 5th Year Classic Extended Mechanical Breakdown Insurance has a range of benefits.

This mechanical breakdown insurance is valid (for the period of insurance as shown in the Policy Schedule) for Ford cars where there was a manufacturer's warranty period of 36 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the first registration date of the vehicle.
  • Covered components – all mechanical and electrical components of the vehicle (other than those components listed under Exclusions)
  • Wear and tear cover – you’re protected against mechanical or electrical failure of covered components as a result of wear and tear (this element of cover ceases when your vehicle exceeds 70,000 miles)
  • Catalytic converters – you’re covered for the catalytic converter due to mechanical failure (which ceases when vehicle mileage exceeds 70,000 miles)
  • In-car entertainment – standard audio equipment: factory-fitted radio/cd player, multi-changer and Bluetooth equipment
Subject to terms, conditions and listed exclusions.
 
And that’s not all you get from Ford Protect Classic 4th and 5th year Mechanical Breakdown Insurance.
 
Additional benefits:
Car hire: for valid claims, the cost of hiring a replacement vehicle shall be covered up to an amount of £30 (inc. VAT) per day for seven days, with the following exclusions:
  • We shall only be liable for such costs where the scheduled repair time of this repair exceeds 8 working hours
  • Delays due to non availability of parts
  • Delays in booking vehicle in for repair
Driving abroad: Repairs carried out on covered mechanical and electrical items, within the European Union, do not require prior approval from Ford Protect. Send repair invoice to Ford Protect upon return to the UK to seek reimbursement.
 
Your period of cover while abroad is:
  • 30 days for insured period of 12 months or 80,000 miles
  • 60 days for insured period of 24 months or 100,000 miles
Transfer of  Policy: Upon the private sale of your vehicle to a new owner, the balance of Ford Protect Classic may be transferred, within seven days, at a cost of £35. Confirmation of correct servicing (within 30 days and/or 1,000 miles of manufacturer’s schedule) will be required.

  • Engine – turbocharger, flywheel, pistons and rings, camshaft and followers, oil pump, lift pump, manifold, timing belt and tensioner, valve block, crankshaft bearings, pulley and damper, diesel vacuum pump, timing belt, chain and tensioner
  • Gearbox – manual and automatic. Selector forks, synchro hubs
  • Four-wheel-drive system – crown wheel and pinion, propshaft
  • Fuel system – fuel pump, injectors and pump, throttle body, throttle potentiometer, fuel pressure regulator, glow plugs, idle control valve
  • Suspension – wheel bearings, drive shafts, wishbones, bushes, track rod ends, cv joints, torsion bars, anti-roll bar links, ball joints, bearings, coil and leaf springs
  • Cooling system – radiator, water pump, thermostat and housing, fan motor, heater matrix and valve, intercooler/heat exchanger
  • Braking– master cylinder, wheel cylinder, calipers, servo, handbrake lever
  • ABS – sensors, pump modulator
  • Steering – power steering rack, pump, reservoir, column and idler box
  • Air conditioning – condenser, compressor, evaporator
  • Electrical system – starter motor, alternator, dashboard instrumentation, central locking motor and module, wiper motor and linkages, washer pump, window motor, remote mirror motor, sun-roof motor, heated windscreens, coil, horn, multi-function stalk, ECU (electronic control unit), indicator and hazard units, relays, senders and solenoids, switches, speedometer, distributor, ignition switch
  • Remote coded key, door lock cylinders, factory-fit alarm
  • Sensors – Lambda sensor, oxygen sensor, EGR valve, crank position sensor, engine speed and temperature sensors, reverse sensor
  • Seat – seat belts and motors. Pedal assembly. Cigar lighter and clock
  • Tailgate strut and lock. Air bag clock spring and rotary coupler
  • Tank sender unit,temperature sender unit, air flow meter and sensor 
What is not covered
There are a few parts that aren't covered – so please take a few moments to read some of the key exclusions below. Further details regarding policy coverage can be obtained from your Ford Protect dealer. Then you’ll ensure you can get the most out of your mechanical breakdown insurance – 4th/5th Year Classic plan:
  • Vehicles that have not been serviced within the manufacturer’s recommended schedule; however, 30 days or 1,000 miles leeway is allowed
  • Vehicles used for hire or reward, e.g. taxis, driving schools
  • Cracks and failures to valves and cylinder heads as a result of carbon build up; damage as a result of overheating
  • Aerials, ancillary drive belts, batteries, brake friction material, bulbs, clutch facings, exhaust pipes, fuses, glass, lamps, paint, sheet metal, shock absorbers, trim, tyres, water ingress, wheels, wiper blades
  • Normal service and maintenance items

Please note, these mechanical breakdown insurance plans must be taken out when you initially buy your new vehicle or within 12 months or 20,000 miles, whichever occurs first, of the date when your vehicle is first registered.

This document provides only a summary of cover, for full details of all your Policy benefits, terms, conditions and exclusions, you should read the 4th and 5th Year vehicle Mechanical and Electrical Breakdown Policy of Insurance, a copy of which will be provided immediately after your Policy is taken out or at any time on request. On receipt of your Policy of Insurance, you will have time to decide if you wish to cancel the Policy – see ‘Your Right of Cancellation’ below.
 
Significant features and benefits
This insurance is designed to pay for the cost of a Mechanical or Electrical Failure as defined in the Policy of Insurance, and can include a contribution towards the cost of hiring a replacement vehicle.

Subject to the Policy terms, conditions and exclusions, the Insurance covers Mechanical or Electrical Failure in respect of Mechanical and Electrical components of your vehicle.
  • To qualify for the 4th and 5th Year Vehicle Mechanical and Electrical Breakdown Insurance, your vehicle must be:
    • a) One of the following Ford models: Ka, Fiesta, Fusion, Focus, C-MAX, Focus Coupé-Cabriolet, S-MAX, Mondeo and Galaxy
    • b) Originally sold with a manufacturer’s warranty period of 36 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first
    • c) The date of first registration of the vehicle is no more than 12 months prior to the date you are purchasing the Policy and the odometer shall read no more than 20,000 miles at the time of your purchase of the Policy
  • Cover includes Covered Components when they are replaced due to wear and tear, provided the vehicle’s odometer reading is less than 70,000 miles at the time of a claim
  •  The maximum amount payable under the Policy during the Period of Insurance shall be up to the purchase price of the vehicle as stated in the Policy Schedule
  • To maintain cover under the Insurance, you must have the vehicle serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines as set out in their handbook
  • Cover for hiring a replacement vehicle is limited to an amount of £30 per day, inclusive of VAT, for up to seven days, commencing 24 hours after the acceptance of a valid claim by the Administrator
  • Please read the full list of exclusions in the Policy of Insurance to ensure you are eligible for the Insurance
Duration of cover
The duration of cover shall be for the period of insurance as shown in the Policy Schedule, and will be for either
a) 12 months, or up to 80,000 miles from the date of first registration of the vehicle, whichever occurs first; or
b) 24 months, or up to 100,000 miles from the date of first registration of the vehicle, whichever occurs first;
this is in excess of the manufacturer’s warranty period of 36 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
 
The insurance shall cease when:
  • You sell or transfer the vehicle; or
  • You do not keep up the monthly premium payments; or
  • You have received the maximum amount payable under the Policy of Insurance; or 
  • The vehicle is repossessed
 IMPORTANT INFORMATION
 
Your right of cancellation (See Policy document for full details)
You have a statutory right to cancel the Policy within 14 days, starting on the later of the date you enter into the contract, or, if different, the date you receive the Policy documentation.

On receipt of your notice of cancellation, you will be entitled to the following refund in respect of the premium you paid for this Policy of Insurance:
i. a full refund of premium in the event that you have not made a claim under the Policy;
ii. a refund of the difference, less an Administration Charge of £35 inclusive of VAT, where the premium is in excess of any claim(s) that has been paid;
iii. no refund where the claim(s) exceeds the premium.
In addition to Your statutory right You may cancel the entire policy at any time by letter. Upon receipt of Your notice of cancellation:
i. providing no claim has been made for the period for which insurance cover was provided and providing You have paid the premium, You will be entitled to a pro rata refund of premium less an administration charge of £35 inclusive of VAT;
ii. no refund will be allowed if You have claimed under the policy.

Compensation
QBE Insurance (Europe) Limited is covered under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. This provides compensation in case any of its members are unable, in specified circumstances, to meet any valid claims under their Policies.The maximum level of compensation for claims against firms declared in default on or after 1 January 2010 is 90% of the claim with no upper limit. Compensation is only available to commercial customers in limited circumstances. The law of England and Wales will apply to this contract unless:
1. You and the Company agree otherwise, or
2. At the commencement of this insurance, you are a resident of (or in case of a business, the registered office or principal place of business is situated in) Scotland, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, in which case the law of that country will apply unless you and the Company agree otherwise.
The language used in the Policy and any communications relating to it will be English.
